Justice and Public Safety
Reporting to the to the Assistant Deputy Minister for Public Safety and Correctional Services, the Chief Adult Probation Officer is a provincial, senior management position which carries the overall responsibility and accountability for all aspects of the administration and delivery of the Community Corrections branch. The Chief Adult Probation officer manages and provides leadership to a team of direct and indirect reports including a number of Regional Mangers, Adult Probation Officer II's and I's, and administrative professionals. The incumbent provides leadership and direction in strategic management, policy development, program development and evaluation, financial operations, human resources, and legislation. This position is a highly accountable, challenging, independent, and professional position which requires a specialized level of expertise in criminal justice and advanced clinical knowledge of offender behavior and best practices regarding offender rehabilitation. The Chief Adult Probation Officer is responsible for the administration and adherence to the Correctional Services Act and regulations and other related legislation like the Criminal Code of Canada as it relates to supervision of offenders in the community. The incumbent is also responsible for the development of protocols and procedures designed to maximize public safety while adhering to statutory requirements; provides leadership and direction in the managing the branches budget, internal planning, program reviews, and delivery of rehabilitative programs; formulation of strategic and operational plans; represents Community Corrections through committee memberships, public consultations and professional forums regarding research, funding, and policy and program development on issues impacting public safety, the rehabilitation/reintegration of offenders, and restorative justice principles. On a national level, the incumbent is also responsible for setting national standards in conjunction with the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Heads of Corrections, Community Corrections Sub-Committee
Screening Criteria
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences (equivalencies will be considered)
- Experience with crime, deviancy, and complex offender behavior
- Experience with rehabilitation and case management practices
- Experience managing policy and program development, administration and delivery
- Experience in resource management (financial, human, operation)
- Experience within the criminal justice system
