Job Description:

The bioacoustics data analyst will support passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) projects by processing, analyzing, and reviewing results generated through bioacoustics detection software. The successful candidate will work with large datasets to validate automated detection results and ensure data quality. This role requires strong attention to detail and a willingness to develop a solid understanding of marine mammal vocal behavior.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following will be the primary responsibilities for the duration of this contract:

· Data acquisition: access and download acoustic files via the Oceans 3.0 API system

· Spectrogram generation: import acoustic files into acoustic analysis software (e.g., Raven Pro) and generate spectrograms for both visual and auditory inspection of acoustic signals.

· Validate autodetector results: to ensure accuracy and reliability of PAMGuard autodetector results, a portion of spectrograms are to be analyzed to identify the proportion of false positive and false negative detections.

· Provide weekly updates summarizing data processed, preliminary findings, and any issue encountered.

· Final deliverable: a spreadsheet containing validation results.

Qualifications and Skills:

This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor with experience in a relevant science discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

· Experience handling large datasets (terabytes-scale).

· A strong attention to detail with high-quality standards.

· Proficient with spreadsheet software programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or equivalent.

· Experience in acoustic analysis software such as Raven Pro and computer programming language is an asset.
