Professional Consulting Veterinarian - Contract (18 Months)BASIC PURPOSE:
The PCV plays an integral role in positioning Hill's in the profession as an important scientific, innovative and credible partner who is engaged in improving the health of dogs and cats and in supporting the profession.
The PCV builds trusted and influential relationships with customers in all customer segments that result in active recommendation and endorsement of Hill's products in Canadian veterinary clinics and pet specialty stores. The role works closely with the Professional Veterinary Affairs Director the PVA Manager, and the Regional Sales Manager to implement strategy-driven plans for key target audiences including: Key Thought Leaders (academic and non-academic); practicing veterinarians; non-veterinarian health care team members in practices; veterinary and pet specialty corporate accounts; students and faculty at veterinary and technician schools; pet stores; and, Hill's Canada Territory Managers.
The PCV is responsible for regional implementation of the Hill's Canada Professional Veterinary plan, which is an important contributor to the BRUT (Brand Recommended, Used and Trusted) company-wide KPI. The position is critical to strengthening veterinarians' understanding and knowledge of our products and to making nutrition a more integral part of veterinary medicine.
This position serves as a technical liaison and business partner for the Customer Development team; consulting with customers, coaching and training Territory Managers, providing technical expertise that supports customer initiatives, and partnering with Territory Managers on strategic initiatives in high potential accounts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
30% Strategically engage healthcare teams in general practice to build the business and position Hill's as an important, scientific, innovative and credible partner who is committed to improving pet health.
- Influence practice success and establish Hill's as the preferred partner for customers identified by Customer Development as high potential, through nutritional education (workshops and seminars), technical support for key team members, local seminars and events
- Help to understand and deliver on veterinary healthcare team's needs in individual clinics as related to product knowledge and 5VA
20% - Build trusting, long-term relationships with and lasting strategic alliances with Key Thought Leaders (KTL's) in academia, private specialty practice, corporate and general practice
- Develop win-win relationships with a broad network of relevant KTLs to build KTL understanding of and recommendation of Hill's products
- Deliver new scientific or product information to KTL's and leverage KTL relationships to keep up to date on new research and developments relevant to Hill's categories
- In collaboration with the Professional Veterinary Affairs Director, identify opportunities to deliver relevant continuing education and other joint projects with KTL's
- Work as a team with Professional Veterinary Affairs Director and Consumer Marketing to identify opportunities for clinical networking studies
20% - Build trusting, long-term partnerships and lasting strategic alliances with designated academic institutions (veterinary schools and technician schools)
- Act as the primary contact for communications with Hill's student representatives, faculty and administration
- Identify, target and prioritize opportunities for education and engagement programs for students and assume responsibility for implementation at the school level
- Work with Hill's student representatives to identify opportunities and to create a positive identity and presence in veterinary and technician schools
- Educate interns, residents and 3rd/4th year veterinary students on clinical nutrition and Hill's products, increasing nutritional competence and influencing active recommendation of Hill's food
10% - Act as a technical and strategic resource for Hill's Territory Managers
- Provide answers to sales team on specific technical questions from clinics and pet stores that need clarification and a solution
- Work closely with Regional Sales Manager to improve and perfect territory manager technical and product expertise as necessary through training, coaching and field work
- Partner with Regional Sales Manager to support district training needs and provide product training at Regional Meetings
20% - Build trusting, long-term partnerships and lasting strategic alliances with designated regional and local veterinary and technician associations
- Act as the primary contact for communications with association senior staff to identify, target and prioritize opportunities that support Hill's strategies; make recommendations to Professional Veterinary Affairs Director regarding these opportunities
Attend national/regional/specialty/corporate conferences to: work the Hill's exhibit booth to provide technical support, build relationships and influence conference attendees to recommend and sell Hill's products; attend scientific sessions to meet professional CE requirements, gain competitive intelligence and current/new technical knowledge; engage with KTL's who are attending or speaking at the conference
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Work from home is typically 15%, day travel is required approximately 65% of the time and overnight travel is required approximately 20% of the time. Candidates should be based in the Vancouver area.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional degree in veterinary medicine (DVM, VMD or equivalent) and 3+ years of clinical practice experience; current, active license to practice veterinary medicine in British Columbia.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong analytical skills and basic understanding of business and business terminology.
- Able to work independently to manage a demanding schedule with irregular hours and to manage travel within geography/region.
- Self-starter with high initiative, strong work ethic and high integrity.
- General computer skills, strong organization and time management skills, ability to work independently.
- Proven sales experience in a related industry is a benefit.
Salary Range $105,300 - $122,850 CAD per year
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and work or office location. This role is for an exisiting vacany.
