Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to deliver a broad range of strength-based, family-centered services designed to teach, coach, and support families and caregivers in building resilience and achieving improved outcomes. A core focus of this role will be on family violence prevention and intervention. The successful candidate will empower families by enhancing parenting skills, building knowledge and confidence, and fostering healthy, supportive relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a culturally appropriate roadmap to navigate complex family and community dynamics related to violence.
- Deliver individual, group, and virtual workshops for parents/caregivers using evidence-based programs such as Triple P and others focused on relationship-building, parenting strategies, and family/intimate partner violence awareness.
- Apply AWN's Diversity Lens and Programs Plan to ensure all activities, events, and celebrations align with strategic goals and support Reconciliation.
- Promote healthy parent-child and caregiver-youth relationships through coaching, mentoring, referrals, and peer connection groups.
- Provide information, counselling, and emotional support to clients and their families impacted by family violence.
- Facilitate educational sessions on topics including brain development and trauma, stress and its impacts, Positive Youth Development, Attachment Theory, and Family Violence Prevention/Support.
- Coordinate or collaborate with external agencies to offer workshops on family and intimate partner violence.
- Ensure programs respect gender and sexual diversity, cultural identities, and indigenous experiences.
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with clients, their families, and support networks.
- Utilize data collection tools such as screens, assessments, and observation to guide service plans and complete outcomes.
- Work from a strength-based, relational, harm-reduction approach to minimize risk factors and enhance protective factors.
- Maintain accurate, timely case notes and documentation, including completing Tawow Program admission and assessments.
- Provide outreach counselling in the community.
- Conduct regular risk and wellness reassessments for clients.
- Document all client interactions in a timely manner.
- Accept and make referrals to outside agencies.
- Liaise with community partners, emergency services, shelters, AHS, and other support resources.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of Tawow Community Centre Family and Intimate Partner Violence programs and assess referral programs suitability for our community members.
- Maintain an up-to-date directory of Alberta shelters, violence intervention programs, virtual counselling services, crisis help lines, and local social health programs.
- Refer to Tawow Community Centre's Mental Health & Addictions program when required.
- Arrange transportation for clients to and from shelters and violence related appointments.
- Develop and facilitate Family and Intimate Partner Violence group counselling programs (or utilize partner agencies).
- Ensure all practices uphold the privacy and confidentiality of clients, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders in accordance with FOIP regulations.
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and organizational priority-setting.
- Travel as required to provide client services, attend meetings, and participate in training or conferences.
Job Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Mental Health & Addictions, Social Work, or related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum one year experience working with individuals experiencing mental health disorders and/or addictions.
- Proficiency in general computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher, PowerPoint email, and internet navigation.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to remain calm, respectful, and non-judgmental in all interactions.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of local Indigenous culture, community values and traditions.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and facilitation skills.
- Experience with basic budgeting, financial reporting, and program evaluation.
- Comfortable working both independently and in a team environment.
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Designations:
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR & AED.
- Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 in business liability insurance.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required prior to employment).
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional facilitation abilities, capable of leading sessions of 2-50 participants without the use of audio-visual aids.
- Skilled at addressing sensitive topics with compassion and professionalism.
- Demonstrates empathy, respect, and a genuine interest in the well-being of others.
- Adaptable to changing schedules and client needs.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily an office-based role with occasional travel.
- Periods of sitting (e.g. while driving or at a desk) and standing or moving during program delivery.
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 30 lbs.
