The Role

We're looking for a Head of Engineering to lead, mentor, and grow our engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll focus primarily on operational excellence with technical execution, helping us scale both our product and our team. You'll partner closely with the CTO to align technical strategy with business goals, ensuring that our engineering organization is set up for both near-term delivery and long-term success.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers across multiple disciplines.
  • Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, code quality, and operational best practices.
  • Guide technical strategy for building high-performance, distributed storage solutions leveraging technologies such as Quobyte, Lustre, or similar parallel filesystems.
  • Partner with product and business leadership to align technical vision with company goals.
  • Define and scale engineering processes (hiring, onboarding, career growth, agile delivery).
  • Stay close to the codebase, making high-impact contributions and guiding key technical decisions.
What We're Looking For
  • 8+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years in leadership roles.
  • Strong background in building and scaling distributed systems or large-scale applications.
  • Experience with distributed filesystems, HPC storage, or large-scale I/O optimization is a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and inspire engineering talent.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders across the org.
  • Pragmatic decision-maker who balances short-term priorities with long-term vision.

Location Preference: This role is open to candidates based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We operate as a remote-friendly team, but some overlap with the Pacific Time Zone is required.

Compensation Range: CA$150K - CA$185K
