Deputy Sheriff - Court Security (Regina) - COU001961

Salary Range: $ $38.009 Hourly
Grade: SGEU.08.
Successful candidates who begin employment prior to the Deputy Sheriff Recruit Course will receive a training wage. Upon starting the course, salaries will be adjusted to the certified Level 8 Deputy Sheriff rate. The next course begins May 19, 2026, in Regina.
Deputy Sheriffs ensure safety and security within Saskatchewan court facilities. Responsibilities include:
- Secure prisoner transport;
- Operation of court detention areas;
- Perimeter screening under the Court Security Act, 2007; and,
- Maintaining order and managing threats within court environments.
Additional Duties
- Deputy Sheriffs oversee the safe and timely transport of individuals between court locations and correctional or law enforcement facilities; and,
- They ensure the accuracy of custody and release documentation and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Legal Authority
As Peace Officers, Deputy Sheriffs operate under the Criminal Code of Canada, Court Officials Act, 2012, Court Security Act, 2007, and The Police Act, 1990. They are authorized to carry and use force option tools when necessary to protect individuals.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Level C certification;
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver's license;
- Recent driver's abstract (within 3 months) showing a safe driving record;
- Successful completion of the Sheriff Officer Physical Abilities Test (SOPAT) in 6 minutes or less;
- Satisfactory psychological assessment (MMPI-2); and,
- Basic security clearance.
Post-Hire Requirements
- Enhanced fingerprint clearance; and,
- Completion of the Saskatchewan Deputy Sheriff Training Academy (SDSTA), including firearms certification and defensive tactics. Training is approximately 8 weeks, Monday to Friday, in Regina.
Qualifications
Candidates should have knowledge of the justice system, typically gained through relevant experience in law enforcement, legal environments, or education in criminal justice or human sciences.
