Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada OP Consulting Full time

OP Consulting is partnering with a confidential client based in Vancouver Lower Mainland, operating in the power, energy, and industrial infrastructure space to support the recruitment of a Mechanical Engineer. Our client delivers technically complex, safety-critical projects within large-scale energy and utility environments, working at the intersection of engineering, construction, and commissioning. Their work supports essential power and energy infrastructure, often involving custom mechanical integration, coordination with external manufacturers, and close collaboration across project teams. This opportunity is well suited for a mechanical engineer who is motivated by real-world applications, takes ownership of their work, and wants to contribute meaningfully to projects where precision, reliability, and execution quality are critical.

Position is open to hire immediately, when submitting your application, ensure your full name is on the CV and indicate your availability for the introductory meeting.

About the Role:

Reporting to the General Manager, the primary role of the Mechanical Engineer is to contribute to mechanical elements of projects and provide support to various Project Managers as when required. This position focuses on mechanical design, drafting, 3D modeling, and leveraging advanced tools and technologies to support company projects.

The Mechanical Engineer is accountable for completing assigned tasks and projects on time, ensuring the accuracy and quality of design and drafting deliverables. Work type varies from site layout and detail design of bulk handing plants to developing tool heads for robotic application.

This role also requires a learning-oriented mindset with the ability to quickly adopt new software and processes. Occasional (sometimes internation) site visits will be required to oversee installations, assist in commissioning of equipment, and ensure that designs are implemented according to specifications. The Mechanical Engineer must be registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or be eligible to register, with this position contributing toward the path of becoming a registered professional engineer.

Roles & Responsibilities:

·      Utilize drafting software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks, to create plant layouts, mechanical designs, 2D/3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for mechanical components and systems.

·      Produce product flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) in coordination with project teams.

·      Perform calculations and checks to verify equipment performance, safety, and compliance with applicable standards.

·      Read and interpret equipment specification sheets to inform part design and production decisions.

·      Ensure designs and layouts align with project specifications, timelines, and safety requirements.

·      Work collaboratively with designers, engineers, and project managers to provide technical input, documentation, and progress updates throughout project execution.

·      Communicate effectively with manufacturers and suppliers to specify and source mechanical components.

·      Assist in prototyping, testing, and evaluating mechanical designs.

·      Operate and perform maintenance on 3D printers, laser engravers, and related prototyping tools.

·      Support site activities including installation oversight and commissioning assistance.

·      Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

·      Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field (or currently pursuing).

·      Eligibility for registration with EGBC as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).

·      Previous experience with drafting, 3D modeling, and production processes is an asset.

·      Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other drafting software.

·      Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·      Basic proficiency with hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, flush cutters, wire strippers) and power tools (drills, miter saws).

·      Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, PFDs, and P&IDs.

·      Strong communication skills for both internal collaboration and external supplier interactions.

·      Willingness to learn and adopt new software, tools, and processes quickly.
