The City of Abbotsford is looking for a qualified, professional, and knowledgeable Auxiliary Fitness Workers – Weight Room Attendants to work in the Weight Rooms at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre as well as the Matsqui Recreation Centre. The focus for the Fitness Worker – Weight Room Attendant is to maintain a safe environment for all patrons to use and assist with their fitness needs.



Under the supervision of the Fitness Supervisor team, the Auxiliary Fitness Worker – Weight Room Attendant is responsible for ensuring an enjoyable experience for participants and deliver excellent customer service, as well as maintaining a safe environment for all patrons. As a Fitness Worker – Weight Room you will ensure the cleanliness and safety of the weight room, while interacting with patrons on fitness goals and other areas of health (social, physical, mental, & emotional) while they visit our facilities.



Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide supervision and instruction to fitness center patrons effectively and in a professional mannerProvide instruction to patrons for safe use of fitness equipment, weightroom environment, review rules and facility safetyEnforce general rules of conduct for fitness facilities Respond to first aid incidents and complete appropriate first aid and safety documentationOpening and closing the fitness center, ensuring safety checks and procedures are completed and facility is ready for operationInspect fitness equipment and report repairs timelyComple daily cleaning tasks to ensure the facility is sanitary and clean for operations. Provide excellent customer service and effective communication to patrons and staffComplete attendance participant reports when applicable

Qualifications & Skills:

Current BCRPA Fitness Theory certificate & Weight Room certificate or equivalent. CFES is accepted, as well as a degree in a fitness related field (Kinesiology, Sports Science, Human Kinetics). Must have B.C.A.K Standing, either student or practicingCurrent Standard First Aid CPR 'C' & AED certificationDemonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow and carry-out oral and written communication in EnglishAbility to prepare documents and communication  Ability to apply the theory-based knowledge in anatomy and physiology as it applies to the work performed  Knowledge of the standard of care within your scope of practiceKnowledge of fitness equipment and functions Knowledge and demonstrated use of email and recreation scheduling software

The candidate is required to provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check in order to work in this position.  A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position. It is the responsibility of the candidate to report to their manager any criminal charges laid against them during their term in this position.

Salary: $21.74 per hour, plus the appropriate percentage in lieu of benefits
