We have an exciting opportunity in our Montreal news bureau – we are hiring a permanent national reporter to cover Montreal and Quebec news for a Canadian audience.
We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about daily news and able to deliver on our CBC News mission of being with the audience every day, making sense of the world together. Live when they need us and on demand when they want us.
The reporter must understand the nuances of Montreal and Quebec news and be able to tell these stories to a national audience. A wide range of storytelling skills and journalistic range are essential for this role. This reporter will need to file packaged video, audio and text stories and be comfortable going live in all these mediums.
Our Montreal team constantly juggles breaking news, daily files, and works away at original stories. Coordinating and collaborating with the local Montreal newsroom on a daily basis will be essential.
This posting is for a National Reporter, STTRC pay band 36 position. Candidates should be bilingual in French and English and have at least seven (7) years of directly-relevant experience. Candidates can expect to work overtime and could be deployed outside of Montreal to cover stories.
The role will involve working Wednesday to Sunday, in the Montreal office.
Please include 2 video news stories, 2 radio news stories, 2 text news stories and 2 examples of live work (eg. Live hit on NN or Fast, live contributions for a Live Page, live hit into a radio program).

- Jump on breaking news and file into live story pages and live programming, including News Network, radio news and social media platforms. Do not hesitate to go out on location whenever possible.
- Research, write and craft packaged audio, video and text stories on deadline.
- Work collaboratively with editors and vettors to sharpen writing, headlines and text.
- Deploy to other regions of Quebec and Canada as needed.
