Specialist, Data Strategy

Lightspeed is looking for a creative and technically strong Specialist in Data Strategy to join our Data Strategy team. As a Specialist, Data Strategy, you'll be responsible for driving innovative, high-value data initiatives across the organization. This role focuses on the end-to-end data lifecycle, with a particular emphasis on data transformation, analytics, and data science. As a Specialist, Data Strategy, you will work on proof-of-concept projects to quickly assess their feasibility and potential impact, which will help inform our larger data strategy. Once validated, you will collaborate with other data professionals to transition these projects into scalable, robust solutions.
NOTE:
As a global company with employees and clients outside of Quebec, fluency in English as a working language is required for this position.
Role
As a member of the Data Strategy team, we will rely on you to drive end-to-end data projects across multiple areas of the organization, focusing on proof-of-concept projects with high potential impact.
This is a full-stack data role—from discovery and hypothesis development to data exploration, modeling, implementation, and impact measurement.
- Identify and pursue data projects with high potential value for the organization through immersing yourself in specific areas of the business
- Solve complex technical problems through proof of concept, exploratory solutions
- Independently design and execute data projects to solve specific business problems with rigorous quantitative methods, often starting with complex underlying data
- Measure the impact of your projects with thoughtful / creative techniques
- Ensure clear communication and alignment with key stakeholders to drive successful outcomes, engaging and informing the stakeholders through compelling data narratives and visualizations
- Lead the development and adoption of the highest analytics standards and methodologies among the Data Office and across the organisation
- Develop a deep understanding of our business processes, systems, and underlying data architecture.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the Data Strategy Team, identifying areas for optimization and driving initiatives to enhance data processes, systems, and quality.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with data professionals across the organization
- Demonstrate professional empathy by actively listening to stakeholders, understanding their needs, and building strong relationships across technical and non-technical teams.
- Identify and prioritize strategic group initiatives that should be supported by the Data Office as part of its evolving roadmap, leveraging the experience you'll gain working with the business.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in roles involving data analytics, data science, data strategy, data engineering, or analytics engineering.
Skills:
Proven business acumen to understand organizational goals and align data initiatives with strategic objectives.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Creative mindset and strong intellectual curiosity to identify high-impact, underexplored opportunities for data-driven projects.
- Expertise in statistical and predictive modelling, data mining, and advanced analytics techniques.
- Advanced SQL skills for querying and managing relational databases.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data manipulation and analysis.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or Power BI).
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Google Cloud, Azure, or AWS)
- Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and data pipeline development.
- Familiarity with modern data transformation tools such as dbt or Dataform
- Experience with version control, collaboration, and workflow management (e.g., Github)
- Excellent communication skill,s including the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, mentor team members and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-impact projects
