JOB SUMMARY

This Lead Hand position is responsible for assembling orders according to customer specifications and delivery deadlines. This individual will lead a team of Greenhouse Workers working on processing or packing lines to ensure accurate order fulfillment, efficient workflow, and consistent product quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership

  • Lead/work with a small team of Greenhouse Workers to:
  • Assemble customer orders on processing and/or packing lines;
  • Maintain efficient and continuous production operations and quality standards;
  • Identify workflow issues, equipment needs, material shortages, product discrepancies and communicate them to the Production Supervisor;
  • Work collaboratively with the Production team to ensure assembly orders are completed accurately and on schedule.

Processing Operations

  • Ensure plants and packaging supplies (pot covers, sleeves, etc.) are stocked for the processing line;
  • Operate, adjust and monitor processing line equipment;
  • Create colour mixes for mixed case orders per customer requests and general mix guidelines;
  • Assemble products by placing plants in pot covers and/or sleeves according to customer specifications and quality standards;

Packing Operations

  • Ensure all packing materials (boxes, labels, trays, etc.) are prepared and stocked for the packing line;
  • Print, prepare and apply accurate labels to boxes and packaging materials;
  • Operate, adjust and monitor boxing and packing equipment;

ERP Support

  • Perform production-related tasks in Microsoft Business Central (MSBC) accurately and promptly:
  • Pick and/or transfer live goods and packaging supplies, updating inventory location as required;
  • Update/adjust assembly orders as required;
  • Post warehouse shipments for completed orders.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient line environment;
  • Work in compliance with company policies and procedures, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act;
  • Participate in meetings related to role;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in greenhouse production, processing, or packing operations preferred;
  • Post-secondary diploma in Horticulture an asset;
  • Forklift/pallet truck certification an asset.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to coordinate small teams to achieve production targets;
  • Ability to follow instructions, and work with greenhouse equipment;
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Basic computer skills: familiarity with ERP system is an asset;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to stand 8+ hours per day;
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push and pull materials and products weighing up to 23 kg;
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions such as bending, reaching and handling materials;
  • Working in a cool/ warm, humid indoor environment with moderate noise level and around moving machinery;
  • Available to work overtime hours and rotating Saturdays as required;
  • Must wear steel toe safety shoes/boots and be able to wear other PPE such as gloves, safety glasses or hearing protection as required.
