Lead Planning/Scheduling Engineer (EPC)

JOB DESCRIPTION - Position Summary:

The Lead Planning/Scheduling Engineer (EPC) is responsible for the oversight, development, integration, maintenance, monitoring, analysis and reporting of project schedules to support the execution of EPC projects. This role involves leading the planning team and engaging with project teams to develop detailed work plans, monitor progress against timelines, milestones, and identify schedule risks and opportunities.

The Lead Planning/Scheduling Engineer (EPC) spearheads the development and maintenance of project schedules using Primavera P6 scheduling software. Collaborating with project teams to develop integrated detailed work plans and schedules for engineering, procurement, subcontracts, construction and commissioning activities.

Monitors progress against project schedules timelines and milestones and identifies schedule variances and risks. Analyzes schedule impacts of changes to project scope, resources, or priorities and develop mitigation strategies. Prepares comprehensive schedule reports and presentations to communicate schedule status and performance to project stakeholders.

Provides recommendations to optimize project schedules, including resource leveling, critical path analysis, and schedule compression. Coordinates with project teams to resolve schedule-related issues and conflicts. Facilitates and or participates in project meetings and reviews to provide schedule updates and recommendations.

The position is based at an industrial construction job site in Edmonton Canada, and will require routine site walkthrough visits to gather, assess and validate construction progress. May require walking on uneven surfaces and climbing of industrial construction platforms.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field. Vast experience working as a Lead Planning/Scheduling Engineer in EPC mega projects in the oil and gas, petrochemicals, industrial gases industries. 15+ years of experience may be accepted in leu of bachelor's degree.

Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software. Proven experience in the application of project management principles and techniques, including schedule development, resource management, earned value management, and risk management/analysis.

Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

The Lead Planning Engineer under the direction of the Project Controls Manager and Project Controls Regional Leadership is responsible for developing and reporting critical path plans and related schedules for the project. Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out planning and scheduling engineering tasks supporting the management of the project. The Lead Planning Engineer is closely involved and facilitates the preparation of the project plan and schedule and must be able to provide accurate and timely status of the project plan.

· Follows AP's established standard processes, procedures and formats required for corporate reporting and deliverables.

· An active member of the PC Team collaborating and supporting project specific strategies and deliverables.

· Assists the PCM to develop and implement strategies for workload among the planning staff.

· Participates in establishing initial plan by implementing AP's templates and facilitating interactive planning sessions with key project team members.

· Develops schedule breakdown structures in accordance with the predefined requirements and works with the Lead Cost Engineer to ensure seamless integration of P6 and Ecosys coding structures.

· Prepares drafts of network logic diagrams for segments or the entire project as applicable.

· Performs forward and backward pass assessments during the preparation of the project schedule and provides critical path analysis highlighting pertinent start and finish dates of milestones and activities.

· Compiles, organizes planning information, and prepares as applicable to the project stage the related project schedules versions with different levels of detail and criteria including the preliminary, 90 days lookahead and master schedule.

· Utilizes Primavera P6 as scheduling and reporting tool.

· Reviews short-cycle schedule impacts and prepares CPM project schedule analysis.

· Collects, validates, and integrates schedule and earned value progress information from vendors and contractors.

· Responsible for the schedule resource loading activities.

· Responsible for the execution of the planning and scheduling activities.

· Responsible for the routine schedule backups.

· Prepares different tabular and graphical schedule timeline and resources reports from as required.

· May collect historical engineering, procurement and construction data for reporting, metrics, and performance analysis.

· Responsible for the archiving of routine schedule reports.

· Responsible for the integration of project changes in the schedule forecast.

· The Lead Planning Engineer is the gatekeeper of the project schedule baseline.

· Assists in developing alternatives to accommodate changes and priorities.

· Attends project meetings and participates by providing the applicable reports.

· Facilitates meetings with key project team members, vendors, and contractors to address and update the project schedule status and forecast.

· Assists the PCM with the coordination, monitoring, reporting and oversight of the field and EDC planning engineering activities.

· Provides proactive and accurate schedule management assessments to assist the project management team.
