Roles and Responsiblities

The Protection Assistant Supervisor will be responsible in supporting the Protection Supervisor in carrying out the mandate of The Child and Family Services. Will assist in overseeing the quality of service to a team carrying responsibilities in servicing Onion Lake membership. Will be reporting the Protection Supervisor

· Under the direction of the Protection Supervisor provide sound supervision when to staff within the context of legislation and standards.

· Assist in supervising, monitoring, coordinating activities of assigned staff, allocate workloads and other duties to child protection workers and support staff.

· Completes the monthly intake and on call schedule.

· Ensuring that all administrative requirements pertaining to client service, including recording of client files and related client data are completed by the team members in an accurate, complete and timely manner.

· Participates in a Supervisor on call rotation for after hour services.

· Participating as required in case review, regular staff meetings and management meetings.

· Lead the intake and investigation processes ensure all intake and investigations are responded to within set time frames.

· Ensure that referrals to community agencies for needs such as counselling services, alcohol and drug programming and assessments are being done.

· Supporting and facilitating good working relationships with the Nation.

· Under the guidance of the Protection Supervisor ensure that all expenditures and sign offs under his/her authority are valid, accurate, warranted and justifiable.

· Attend court as required (as worker support, monitoring or training).

· Ensure the training needs of the employees are met.

· Providing relevant reports when required.

· Assist in delegating tasks.

· Assist monitoring employee performance.

· Adhere to and enforce all OLFS policies and procedures.

· Other duties as assigned that are complimentary to the role of Protection Assistant Supervisor Role.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· B.I.S.W., BSW

· 2 years' experience child protection

· Valid Class 5 driver's license

· Clear criminal record with vulnerable sector

· Combined education and experience will be considered

Competencies

  • Knowledge and experience in Cree culture, protocols and ceremonies is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience of family dynamics
  • Understanding of The Child and Family Services Act of Saskatchewan and the Freedom and Protection of Privacy Act, Saskatchewan child abuse protocol and SDM policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of child abuse and neglect indicators and affects.
  • Knowledge of community services, resources, and the extent to which theses resources support members of Onion Lake Cree Nation
  • Work under pressure and stress situations
  • Strong principles and ethics
  • Work under pressure and stressful situations
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Physical ability to lift up-to 20lbs
