About the jobIn this role, you will:
- Oversee and review technical aspects of highway projects managed by private partners (P3s)
- Lead or support negotiations on project changes, contracts, and cost-sharing agreements
- Provide expert advice on technical issues and contract terms
- Work with legal staff to ensure compliance and protect ministry interests
- Manage sensitive issues and prepare briefings for senior leadership
Mandatory requirements
- You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
You have:
- Knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of civil engineering related to highway design, construction, operations, maintenance, traffic and safety
- Knowledge of government contract management and administration techniques and processes to effectively monitor contractual obligations.
- Ability to interpret and administer long-term concession contracts contract and negotiate within a complex environment.
- You are able to identify problems and hazardous situations from engineering drawings and specifications and determining the merits of various design alternatives
- You have the ability to develop and recommend options for solving engineering issues relative to the design and construction of urban and rural freeway facilities.
- You are able to evaluate and conduct risk assessment of complex issues and resolve issues
- You are able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with senior representatives of the ministry, municipalities, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
- You demonstrate political acuity when acting in the best interest of the ministry
- You can maintain harmonious working relationships with senior representatives of the ministry, municipalities, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
- You are able to provide advice and recommendations to senior divisional and ministry management on contentious technical and legal issues.
- You are able to prepare detailed reports and presentations.
- You are able to lead technical staff, consultants, stakeholders and service providers on various projects or assignments.
- You can assess and effectively manage many competing and conflicting priorities and for help others manage competing and conflicting priorities.
- You have the ability to mentor colleagues and lead technical teams, including consultants, representing various areas of the ministry expertise.
