The Opportunity
Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of OT Network & Systems Administrator II working in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The OT Network & Systems Administrator II is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting network equipment and servers to support our client's needs under the supervision of a Lead Administrator. The primary designs support Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and data historization in the renewable power and water industries.
What You'll Do
Design network infrastructure and make recommendations to support client needs under the supervision of a Lead Administrator. The network design tasks typically consist of the following elements Work will be completed under the supervision of a Lead Administrator.
Create Layer 1, 2, 3 drawings to depict the network
- Create an IP address spreadsheet for all devices on the network
- Define firewall rules to facilitate the necessary secure communication between devices
- Configure firewalls, switches, and other devices per the designs
Field Support
Configure, test, and troubleshoot network equipment using industry best practices for secure networks.
Configure firewalls to allow only desired traffic between devices (common vendors are Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto)
- Coordinate and troubleshoot VPN tunnels to allow remote traffic
- Configure network switches (common vendors are Cisco, SEL, Antaira)
Support engineers and clients with communication issues as they arise
Configure client servers under the supervision of a Lead Administrator
Installation of operating systems (Windows and Linux)
- Installation of SCADA applications (Ignition and others)
- Installation of historian database (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, MariaDB)
- Configuration of Virtual Machines
Configure Network Attached Storage (NAS) or recovery solutions
Take ownership of quality and participate in QC checks and factory acceptance tests of designs and configurations
- Maintains positive client relationships, responsive both internally and externally, very frequent client interaction
What We Expect From You
Various career paths that will be considered
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent field of study with 2+ years experience
- Associates degree with 3+ years of network or systems related industry experience
5+ years of industry experience along with relevant professional network certifications (CCNA, Network+, VCTA-DCV, etc.)
Overall position is a flexible hybrid of in-person and remote work. The ability to travel to and from facilities in the Hamilton and Niagara areas is required. The amount of local travel will vary depending on company needs.
- Occasional travel to work sites in the US and Canada may be required
- Solid understanding of the OSI model
- Strong communication skills required to maintain positive client relationships
- Able to work closely and effectively with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects
- Takes ownership of quality and completing tasks in the allotted time
- Intermediate knowledge of configuring or managing physical or virtual servers
- Experience with Hyper Converged Solutions or other redundant server configurations preferred (VMware VSAN and others)
- Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects
- Experience with network integration and troubleshooting field equipment preferred
- Basic understanding of multiple communication protocols (DNP/Modbus/IEC61850/TCP/UDP) and physical communication mediums (RS232, RS485, copper, fiber, etc.) preferred
- Hands on experience with design, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of network environment including routers, firewalls, switching and wireless. Experience with Cisco, SEL, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Antaira, Sierra Wireless products is preferred
- Knowledge and experience in the application and management of routing protocol selection, quality of service (QoS) implementation are preferred
- Understanding and experience with NERC CIP standards and how the control environment impacts both the business and IT processes and systems is preferred
- Experience working in the electric utility industry or other industrial network environments with exposure to SCADA devices or protective relays is preferred
- Experience with the following is a plus: Wireshark, Python, Linux, Cisco CLI, CISCO Packet Tracer, VMware, Visio, pgAdmin, PuTTy
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess a valid Canadian Driver's License and ability to meet company driving standards
- Must have the ability to travel across the United States and Canada

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $78,600 - $106,500 CAD
- Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
