POSITION TITLE: Digital Fabrication Technologist

REPORTS TO: Digital Fabrication Foreman /

Production Manager   

WORK SCHEDULE:

• Regular, Full-Time, Days
• Mixed Shop and Office Settings
• Day Shift (7:00 – 4:00 pm)
• Evenings and weekend overtime as required

Overview

The primary focus of the Digital Fabrication Technologist is to act as a bridge between the Design and Digital fabrication teams. This role performs several duties that involve CNC nesting / programming, developing work-holding strategies, assisting design with 3D modelling (QC production details meet internal standards), providing schematic production drawings for production as required, effective communication with CNC operators, assisting with maintaining shop stock / tooling inventory, and quality control. As a Digital Fabrication Technologist, you will report directly to the Digital Fabrication Foreman and will work closely with both the Design and Production teams.

An obsession with furniture, wood assemblies, 3D modelling, and organization are assets to this role – RFP is in the process of reinforcing a strong working culture. A person matching the above description will find several like-minded people to collaborate and build with.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review and provide feedback to the design team on active projects ensuring that best practices are being adhered to.
• Support in the development and implementation of the RFP standard details catalog outlining approved connection details and assembly strategies for all products
• Extract part files, review material thicknesses and ensure that 3D models are ready for production
• Assist with the Preparations of BOM's for production.
• Program jobs for the CNC machines as required
• Update existing component and sub-assembly drawings to current ISO standards.
• Construct and revise 2D & 3D models using AutoCAD & Fusion360
• Assist in the Development of project documentations such as bills of materials, detail and assembly drawings, manufacturing instructions, and RFF release packages.
• Develop processes and operating procedures to improve the efficiency and quality of output from the digital fabrication department.
• Assist in maintaining shop stock & tool inventory
• Maintain up-to-date records of hours spent on each project
• Nest components and maximize yield on sheet goods.
• Recommend and implement process improvement projects as required.
• Producing production drawings for jigs to assist with construction and installations
• Participate in production and/or solution meetings as required
• Respond to shop requests for problem solving assistance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Software Skills

• CAM/CAD software expertise
• Knowledge of 3D and 2D project design
• Sound understanding of CNC machinery and operating procedures

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00-$32.00 per hour
