Cumulative Effects Assessment Practice Lead

My client is an employee-owned Canadian environmental consulting firm specializing in solving complex environmental challenges through evidence-based evaluation, inclusive engagement, and strategic guidance. They are seeking a proven leader to grow and guide their Cumulative Effects Assessment team.

This is a senior-level role focused on delivering measurable impact: your success will be determined by the quality and timeliness of CEA deliverables, your ability to grow the practice area, and the strength of the partnerships and relationships you build with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and industry.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: Hybrid Vancouver, BC or 100% Remote

Travel: Required but not extensive, to lead, attend, and participate in client meetings, workshops, and study site visits in North America and abroad (predominantly within Canada).

Salary: $110k - $150k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. In this role, you will be accountable for:

• Delivering high-quality CEA projects on time and on budget: Oversee and assure quality on multiple projects annually, meeting or exceeding client and regulatory expectations.
• Strengthening Indigenous engagement outcomes: Build trusted, long-term relationships with Indigenous Nations and communities, ensuring that Indigenous perspectives and UNDRIP principles are meaningfully integrated into CEA projects.
• Integrating CEA with climate change adaptation planning: Demonstrate measurable improvement in how cumulative effects data is used to inform climate resilience strategies.
• Expanding the company's CEA practice: Win new work through successful proposal leadership, negotiate profitable contracts, and grow annual revenue for the CEA team by strengthening existing client relationships and establishing new partnerships.
• Establishing industry leadership in CEA best practice: Contribute to thought leadership through conference presentations, published papers, training sessions, and active participation in external panels.
• Building and managing multidisciplinary teams: Deliver projects that successfully integrate ecological, socio-economic, and cultural knowledge systems, while achieving high team performance and retention.
• Developing and implementing adaptive management solutions: Lead projects that resolve uncertainty in complex socio-ecological systems through evidence-based tools, data analytics, and innovative frameworks.

Key Deliverables:

• Successfully lead at least 3–5 complex CEA projects, delivering outputs that meet regulatory requirements and earn repeat business.
• Increase Indigenous and community participation in CEA projects by establishing at least 2 new long-term partnerships.
• Deliver 2+ successful competitive proposals resulting in a measurable increase in annual team revenue.
• Produce or co-author at least 1 external publication or presentation showcasing the company's leadership in CEA.
• Develop a refined CEA framework and project quality assurance process that is adopted across the team and used to strengthen client outcomes.

Qualifications for Success:

• Master's or Ph.D. in ecology, biology, applied science, climate science, resource management, or related field.
• 8+ years of direct CEA experience and 15+ years professional experience in environmental management or consulting.
• Deep understanding of Canadian and international environmental regulatory regimes and case law relevant to CEA.
• Demonstrated success integrating Indigenous perspectives and UNDRIP principles into cumulative effects frameworks.
• Established professional network spanning government, Indigenous groups, private sector, academia, and/or NGOs.
• Proven record of delivering profitable projects and successfully leading proposals, contracts, and negotiations.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills with the ability to translate complex information into actionable decisions for diverse audiences.
• Track record of publishing or presenting thought leadership in CEA.

Assets:

• International CEA experience.
• Previous experience in private consulting or research leadership roles.
• Registration (or eligibility) with the College of Applied Biologists.
• Spanish or French language proficiency.
