The role of the Inclusion ECE

The position reports to Jericho Youth Services Child Care (CC) Coordinator and Inclusion Coordinator (IC). The Child Care Inclusion ECE (CCIECE) will provide essential, barrier free support services that connect children/youth to inclusive recreation, sport and art opportunities at the childcare centre. The CCIECE is responsible for the safety and well-being of a participant with special and/or behavioural needs (children or youth) either in a one to one ratio or in a group setting. The Child Care Inclusion ECE will include and facilitate the participant(s) in the registered program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Report to and work in consultation with the CC Coordinator and IC to identify needs/areas of concern and direct/develop program adaptation for delivery

● Provide additional assistance (e.g. interpreting instructions, providing physical assistance) to help the child participate in the program as fully as possible

● Provide a balance of support and freedom within the context of the program

● Encourage social interaction between the child and the group participants

● Adapt activities, as required, to allow active participation by the child

● Provide positive reinforcement or other behavioral intervention, as needed, to facilitate the child's involvement in the group

● Promote the child's enjoyment in the program

● Respond to any questions that might arise from the other children and/or program leader

● Provide any other individual assistance needed to promote the child's general adjustment in the program

● Develop a rapport with the child and parents/guardians and report to them daily on matters concerning their child(ren) while maintaining confidentiality

● Track the development

● Ensure that the health and safety needs of the child are met, and all health/safety issues are dealt with immediately and appropriately

● Ensure proper sign in/sign out procedures are followed

● Cleaning and tidying up the facility and ensuring the safe storage of equipment as needed

● Participate in all required training(s) and staff meetings.

● Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

● Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Educators, Teachers, Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker or Parks & Rec.

● Minimum 2 years of experience in childcare or school setting

● Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid standard First Aid CPR certification

● Ability to participate and assist participants in a variety of recreational activities which may include adapted activities

● Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job including frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Ability to use various sports equipment used in programming. Ability to do lifting to 30kg.

● Ability to deal courteously and effectively with participants, other staff, and parents/guardians

● Police Vulnerable Sector Screen satisfactory to Jericho Youth Services is required

● AODA, WSIB, WHMIS

● Must have a valid G driver's license and reliable transportation

ADDITIONAL NOTES½ day paid sick leave per month (not to be accumulated yearly), and Health Benefits after 3 month probationary period.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal

Pay: $25.86-$28.86 per hour
