The Opportunity
Build the Future with Us
– As a
Water Resources Engineer-in-Training
based in our
Calgary
office, you'll help shape how communities grow and adapt to a changing climate. You'll contribute to the planning and design of stormwater, drainage, hydrotechnical and municipal water systems that support safer, more sustainable neighbourhoods. Working alongside experienced engineers across our Municipal, Land Development, Transportation and Renewable Energy markets, you'll get hands-on exposure to a wide range of projects and real opportunities to grow your career.
Your Impact
- Design and support the delivery of drainage, hydrotechnical and stormwater management solutions for both new and existing communities.
- Prepare preliminary, detailed and tender-ready engineering drawings, designs and plans that move projects from concept to construction.
- Develop and verify engineering calculations and technical assessments that inform key project decisions.
- Build, run and refine hydrologic and hydraulic models to evaluate system performance and support future planning.
- Contribute to clear, well-structured technical reports, memos and other project documentation for internal and external clients.
- Assist in preparing presentations, proposal content and other materials that showcase our technical solutions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across WSP to integrate water resources considerations into broader infrastructure and land development projects.
- Participate in occasional field activities to connect design decisions with real-world site conditions.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with interest or coursework in water resources, and eligibility for Engineer-in-Training registration in Alberta.
- 1 to 4 years of experience.
- Familiarity with municipal engineering, stormwater management, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, plus an understanding of Alberta design standards and practices.
- Hands-on experience or training with tools such as WaterCAD, PCSWMM, MIKE+ or InfoWorks, and design platforms like AutoCAD, Civil 3D and GIS.
- A curiosity-driven, problem-solving mindset — you enjoy learning new tools, exploring technical challenges and contributing to meaningful community and infrastructure projects.
