As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands-on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help inspire and train current and future industry professionals and become part of Canada's leading polytechnic. The Educational Laboratory Technologist II provides essential support to the Materials Engineering Technology (MET) program by ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of laboratory facilities. This role encompasses equipment maintenance, instructional support, student assistance, inventory management, and health and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair equipment as necessary to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Assist in the preperation of lab activities for labs with Matierlas Engineering Technology students.
  • Assist instructors in lab activities to ensure proper use of equipment.
  • Maintain records relating to equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain lab supplies within a given budget and research when ordering new lab equipment
  • Demonstrate procedures for correct and safe use of lab equipment.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Understand all metallurgical, destructive and nondestructive testing equipment found in the Materials Engineering Program labs.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good oral and interpersonal skills to interact with students, staff, and industry.
  • Repair and maintain all equipment in the labs.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Materials Engineering Technology or Welding Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous lab experience in an industrial setting related to Materials Testing.
  • Experience in the following areas: Metallurgy, or Corrosion Analysis, Nondestructive Testing, Quality Assurance.
  • Demonstrated capability of working independently as required.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Remuneration: $51, $69,092.14 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Ed Lab Technologist II).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
