Location - This role is in-person at North Campus, Edmonton.
Position Summary
This position supports the installation, maintenance, and technical support of the University of Alberta building management systems (BMS), laptops, computer server equipment, communication equipment and people counter systems on campus. Supported systems are as follows:
- Building Control Systems (BCS)
- Integration Control Systems (ICS)
- Remote Control Monitoring Systems (RCMS)
- Building Management Server Systems (BMSS)
- Building Management Network Systems (BMNS)
- Building Management People Counter Systems (BMPCS)
- Building Management Analytical Systems (BMAS)
- Building Management Lighting Control Systems (BMLCS)
The Campus Operations & Services team supports the University of Alberta through a range of essential services and works for operating, maintaining and renewing infrastructure across our campuses.
Building Management systems are real-time environment and diagnostic monitoring systems installed in the majority of buildings on North, South and Remote Campuses. Each building has its own Building Control System (BCS) that controls heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
The systems operate and monitor building environments through the Unified Control Centre (UCC) via an Integration Control System (ICS) platform 24 hours per day. Any failure or downtime on individual components or systems becomes critical with serious consequences to the building environment, resulting in potential loss of research work and learning environment.
- Provide installation, maintenance and commissioning services for BMS hardware and software.
- Analyze problems occurring in or related to systems to ensure proper functioning in the operation of the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems in University buildings
- Under direct supervision and using established standards, responsible for the implementation of hardware designs and software programming for HVAC control systems to meet the intent of the project requirements.
- Responsible for the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required.
- Validates complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
- Completes paperwork, including but not limited to work orders and system posting of documentation.
Participate in standby shifts on a rotating basis to respond to BMS failures
A graduate of Engineering Technology program in Instrumentation, Building Environmental Systems Technology, and/or HVAC Engineering, and/or a graduate of a computer programming Diploma or Degree program.
- Certified Engineering Technologist qualification is an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
