Montreal, Quebec, Canada Axya Full time

About Axya

Axya is a cutting-edge technology company revolutionizing the source-to-pay process for the manufacturing industry. Our innovative SaaS platform streamlines and automates procurement, making it faster, simpler, and more cost-effective for companies sourcing custom parts. By digitizing traditionally manual processes, Axya enables manufacturers to operate with greater efficiency and competitiveness.

We are proud to cultivate an inclusive and collaborative work environment that fosters innovation, growth, and professional development. As a member of our team, you'll collaborate with passionate, forward-thinking professionals and contribute directly to transforming procurement in the manufacturing sector.

Role Overview

As a Technical Lead, you will serve as a strategic player-coach responsible for the structural integrity, scalability, and performance of Axya's SaaS platform. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will balance high-level architectural ownership with hands-on development, helping translate business objectives into engineering execution.

You will work closely with the CTO and Product Owner to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing systems while mentoring an agile engineering team. Our core stack is centered on Python, React, PostgreSQL, Celery, and AWS, and you will play a key role in ensuring it evolves to support Axya's rapid growth and enterprise ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

CTO Collaboration & Technical Strategy

  • Partner with the CTO to define and execute technical strategy aligned with the company roadmap.
  • Translate business priorities into scalable engineering initiatives and architectural decisions.
  • Challenge requirements and guide tradeoffs to maximize business impact while maintaining simplicity and reliability.

Architecture & Scalability

  • Define and evolve the high-level SaaS architecture to support long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Validate feasibility of new features and ensure the platform remains resilient and performant as usage grows.
  • Set standards for system design, patterns, and technical consistency across the product.

Hands-on Development & Technical Leadership

  • Actively contribute to the codebase by writing clean, scalable, high-quality code.
  • Lead implementation of complex features and serve as the final escalation point for major technical blockers.
  • Drive best practices through strong engineering discipline and leadership-by-example.

Tech Stack & Platform Ownership

  • Own and optimize the core stack: Python, React, PostgreSQL, and Celery.
  • Ensure robust asynchronous processing, system performance, and database efficiency.
  • Maintain a strong engineering foundation that enables rapid product iteration without sacrificing quality.

Cloud, DevOps & CI/CD

  • Lead cloud infrastructure management on AWS, ensuring scalability and operational excellence.
  • Implement and improve deployment workflows using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Enforce engineering best practices in CI/CD, DevOps workflows, automated testing, and production readiness.

Security & Performance

  • Own platform security thinking and implementation, including secure design practices and risk mitigation.
  • Continuously optimize performance across backend systems, infrastructure, and critical workloads.
  • Ensure stable deployments and platform reliability for a growing B2B customer base.

Sprint Execution & Agile Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Product Owner to refine the backlog, provide estimates, and support sprint planning.
  • Drive sprint execution to ensure delivery predictability and strong engineering throughput.
  • Promote continuous improvement and team accountability in an agile development environment.

Team Mentorship & Engineering Culture

  • Conduct thorough code reviews and mentor engineers to raise technical quality and autonomy.
  • Coach the team to adopt best practices in design, testing, architecture, and delivery.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Nice to Have: ERP & API Ecosystem

  • Lead development of scalable integrations with third-party ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle) and external APIs.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in SaaS development, with proven experience as a Tech Lead or Architect.
  • Advanced hands-on proficiency in Python, React, PostgreSQL, and Celery.
  • Deep expertise in AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of system design for scalable, distributed cloud applications.
  • Experience leading agile teams and supporting sprint planning, refinement, and delivery.
  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to simplify, prioritize, and maximize business value.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to align engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Expert-level debugging and performance optimization skills in production environments.
