Job Description:
Reporting to the Director, Application Support & Operations, the Manager, Enterprise Business Applications will lead a diverse team of IT professionals and managed services providers in building and maintaining AltaLink's corporate applications, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solutions, and Geographic Information System (GIS) environments and practices. The Manager, Enterprise Business Applications will ensure efficient operations following the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) services delivery model within AltaLink's application pillars which include SAP (ECC 6), Bentley ProjectWise, ESRI GIS, and additional applications used within AltaLink in its capacity as a Transmission Facility Owner (TFO). This team is critical in leading the organization in achieving strategic business initiatives through the use of Information Technology.
You will be a leader in the Security & Information Services (S&IS) team at AltaLink and will lead through collaboration with the business and IT teams to formulate business strategy, prioritize resource load, provide direction on capital projects, and ensure expert support and ITIL practices operate effectively to support and optimize AltaLink's application pillars. This will be accomplished through a consultative approach which delivers a clear and concise business roadmap, establishes and improves key application metrics, and supports business process design through the use of application tools. A successful leader in this role will also be able to coach and mentor their key and other key organizational leaders in identifying and building business capability requirements into system projects, working with the S&IS teams to provide leadership on implementation and support plans and ensure solutions align with Enterprise Architecture strategies and corporate objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead teams of application support analysts, developers, and functional analysts to sustain and enhance AltaLink's corporate application landscape, including driving new product solutions and ensuring effective operational support is established and maintained.
- Oversee and participate in daily operational activities to address incidents, service requests, and ensure deliverables are met, utilizing established measures to quantify and improve performance.
- Mature and enhance AltaLink's ITIL service delivery model, leading and participating in initiatives to improve IT services, in collaboration with IT leaders, business stakeholders, and managed service providers.
- Partner with IT and business stakeholders—including business units, project leads, and external partners—to fully understand challenges and needs, gather high-impact requirements, and develop them into value-adding programs and projects
- Identify and proactively pursue opportunities for continuous improvement and increased efficiency, andguide teams to implement enhancements, simplify processes, automate, and optimize operations.
- Create financial and resource plans that accomplish organizational and departmental objectives, and participate in contract negotiations, including managing software licenses and usage models.
- Participate in steering committee meetings and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure projects receive support and organizational visibility.
- Conduct post-implementation reviews to ensure projected business benefits are achieved, document lessons learned.
- Monitor, review, and assess evolving and new technologies, recommending system improvements and enhancements to add value to AltaLink's operations and business application initiatives.
- Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 10 years of experience in people management, project leadership, and operational support within information technology or operational technology environments.
- 10 years of hands-on ERP and EAM systems experience, ideally with SAP and Maximo, including business process and system configuration expertise.
- 3 years of experience working with the ITIL framework.
- Experience with SAP modules (FI/CO, MM, HR, PM, PS, BW) in regulated utility environments is strongly preferred, although comparable experience with other ERP systems will also be considered valuable.
- Strong background in enterprise applications, including Bentley ProjectWise, and ESRI GIS; familiarity with Adobe, SolarWinds, and utility-specific applications (PI, Cascade, Powerbase) is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders to gather, analyze, and clarify requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Skilled in project management and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) best practices, including requirements management, testing, deployment, and leading cross-functional project teams.
- Experienced in test management, including developing QA/test plans, test cases, Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM), and preferably with automation testing tools.
- Expertise in software license management.
- Strong client service orientation, with a track record of building trusted internal business partnerships.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and third parties.
- Proficient in using Kanban and Agile development tools such as MS Planner, Azure DevOps, and JIRA to manage team workload and prioritize activities.
- Proven ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and consistently deliver strong performance and attendance.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
