Job Description

The Transportation division of AECOM is excited to offer an opportunity for a creative, highly skilled Western Canada Transit and Rail Operations Director to join our team. Reporting to AECOM Canada's Director of Operations for Transportation, the successful candidate will lead and develop the Transit and Rail practice in Western Canada. They will serve existing clients, develop new client relationships, and collaborate with Global and Regional Practice Leaders to implement regional initiatives. In addition, this individual will coordinate technical services and staff within the Transit and Rail practice to foster collaboration across the region. This role can be based out of any of our offices in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and grow AECOM's transit and freight rail engineering team across Western Canada, focusing on transit and freight rail infrastructure for track design, systems, signals, communications, operations modeling, and associated infrastructure.
  • Direct transit and rail-related projects, covering all phases from initial planning and design through construction and post-construction support.
  • Develop and implement strategies to deliver successful project outcomes, including quality management, client engagement, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate across AECOM's Transportation groups and other business lines, integrating expertise from these teams as needed for complex projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and key government agencies in Western Canada to ensure successful project delivery and support the growth of AECOM's presence in the region.
  • Collaborates with and is accountable to the Transportation Growth Leads to ensure we meet our business development targets and initiatives, including providing staff to lead and participate in proposal preparation, strategic planning, and expanding AECOM's service offerings in the transit and rail sector.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives to grow the transit and rail practice in Canada.
  • Recruit top talent to expand the Practice.
  • Mentor and develop the technical abilities of staff within the Practice.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with 12+ years of experience in transit and rail projects.
  • At least 4 years of leadership experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Western Canada, or equivalent degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years of senior management experience, including a minimum of 10 years in transit and rail engineering projects within Western Canada.
  • Strong familiarity with public-sector transportation agencies, including provincial ministries, municipalities and agencies in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, as well as other organizations such as CN Rail and CPKC.
  • Expertise in transit and freight rail engineering, from design to maintenance.
  • Experience in business development, client development, and strategic planning for engineering services.
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to build productive working relationships within AECOM and with global project teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in pursuing and winning opportunities in Canada, with a strong reputation in the Canadian transit and rail market.
  • Proven experience in leading and building multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to attract top talent within the Canadian transit and rail market.
