Position Overview

The Victim Services Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the delivery of victim services within an RCMP Detachment. This specialized role provides leadership to staff and volunteers while ensuring timely, trauma-informed support to victims and witnesses of crime. The position works closely with RCMP members, community partners, and government agencies to promote effective service delivery, program sustainability, and continuous improvement.

The Coordinator exercises considerable independent judgment, particularly in emergency and high-conflict situations, and is accountable for program effectiveness, compliance with guidelines, and community impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, coordinate, and oversee the daily operations of the Victim Services Program.

Ensures service delivery aligns with program guidelines, objectives, and service standards.

Monitor, evaluate, and report on program effectiveness, including preparation of statistical reports to support provincial funding.

Recommend enhancements to services, policies, and procedures as required.

Prepare and maintain records, reports, and correspondence for Police administration.

Assist with the preparation and monitoring of the program operating budget.

Plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff providing direct victim support services.

Screen, interview, and select volunteers and students.

Schedule staff and volunteers to meet operational needs.

Develop, update, maintain training manuals and arrange skills development opportunities.

Organize volunteer appreciation initiatives and events and manage related budgets.

Liaise with RCMP members, government agencies, and community organizations to coordinate services and support.

Represent the Victim Services Program on committees, boards, and at community meetings.

Deliver presentations and coordinate community education initiatives to promote program awareness.

Provide immediate crisis intervention, emotional support, information, and referrals to victims and witnesses of crime or trauma.

Support clients through the criminal justice process and attend court as required.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of a two-year diploma in the field of social sciences and courses in crisis intervention, conflict resolution and victim support, plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of program objectives, policies and procedures.

Considerable knowledge of crisis intervention practices and techniques related to the work.

Sound knowledge of services available through community agencies and organizations.

Sound knowledge of court and police procedures as they relate to the work.

Sound knowledge of computer software applications related to the work performed.

Ability to coordinate, implement and direct a victim services program, and to evaluate the effectiveness of same.

Ability to recruit, interview, select, train and motivate a small volunteer group and to supervise the work of one or more subordinates.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts including community groups.

Ability to present ideas effectively and in writing, recommend program policy, develop training materials, make presentations, and prepare a variety of records, reports and correspondence related to the work.

Ability to provide direct crisis intervention and follow-up services to victims of crime, trauma and family problems.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS

RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.

Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
