Pay Rate: Grid Level 11 ($ $31.61)

Hours of work: 20 hours per week Monday to Friday 12:30-5:30pm – occasional evening shift 5-7:30pm, flexible schedule

Nature of Position

The Youth Outreach Worker makes a significant contribution to youth and families by providing weekly one to one and/or group activities to support teen's interests, abilities, and goals by implementing family and person centred plans. Support will include opportunity to practice skills that increase success in daily living and ensure access to community and healthy relationships within and outside the program. This program aims to help teens and families prepare for life during and after high school.

The Youth Outreach Worker reports to the Youth Outreach Coordinator.

Required Abilities

  • Works as a team member and individually in settings where youth participate to plan and implement strategies and activities for inclusion and skill development. Encourages and provides modelling/mentorship to promote successful involvement and interaction of youths with their goals, their peers and their community.
  • Participates in on-going evaluations of plans, goals and objectives. Participates in team meetings, completes observations, assessments, and contributes to the development of the Service Plan.
  • Maintains records, documentation and reporting which is objective, complete, timely and in keeping with inclusion powell river standards.
  • Responds immediately to emergencies including incidents of child abuse, in accordance with funder guidelines, inclusion powell river policies and procedures using common sense and good judgement at all times
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge in the field, participates actively in the evaluation process and in training opportunities. Contributes to a learning organization by self-reflecting on their practice, sharing ideas and contributing to planning and discussions about service. Seeks input and support when concerns or questions arise
  • Adheres to inclusion powell river policies and procedures. Understands the service principles, CARF standards, ministry guidelines and ensures that all of these form the basis for all work performed.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Education Assistant and Community Support, Behaviour Intervention, and/or Therapeutic Recreation Diploma
  • Recent experience working with youth with support needs
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Requirements for hiring and ongoing Employment

  • Successful Criminal Record Check
  • A valid WCB-approved First Aid Certificate (OFA Level 1)
  • A valid WCB-approved Child Safe First Aid Certificate
