ACC have 3 feedlot locations within 15 minutes of Iron Springs and Picture Butte.
Overview
The pen checker must be capable to examine animals to detect diseases and injuries, administer medication and health treatments, as necessary. Maintain accurate cattle records and the treating of cattle. The ability to ride horse is an asset and support other areas of the feedlot as needed such as bedding, cleaning drinkers, fixing fences, scraping pens, etc.
Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications
Major responsibilities
- Animal Welfare – Cattle are priority
- Daily monitoring the overall health and care of the cattle by riding pens
- Ensure early and accurate diagnosis of sick cattle.
- Treating sick cattle daily and entering treatments records into the computer system
- Keep an accurate head inventory in hospital pens
- Pen management (ensure feed bunks in hospitals always have good feed quality and hay if needed.
- Daily assessment of cattle condition in hospital pens
- Keep barn and chute clean and tidy
- Assist in general labor jobs such as fixing fences and washing equipment
Qualifications
- Must have strong livestock husbandry skills, possessing both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the field of animal science
- Experience working on horseback
- Posses' knowledge of common diseases within cattle in feedlot setting
- Good horsemanship skills
- Self-Motivated
- Personal vehicle for commuting to the work location
- Valid Class 5
