Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria's diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement.The salary range for this position is:Recruitment range: $72,242 - $79,650 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.Performance range: $93,951 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.*May be eligible for hybrid working arrangement after successful completion of probationary period*Job SummaryAs part of Financial Planning and Operations, the Financial Reporting department prepares all internal management reporting and all external compliance financial reporting for the University of Victoria and its consolidated entities. The department is responsible for the production and delivery of reliable, relevant, accurate and timely financial statements, and reports for both internal management purposes and external users.Reporting to the Financial Reporting Team Lead, and working as a member of a team of Financial Accountants, this position's primary responsibility is to support the production of the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements, working papers and reports for the university and its related entities. Key accountabilities for this role include:Performing accounting functions including review and posting of journal entries, transactions and journal entries in order to detect and correct errors.Working with senior team members to prepare and analyze financial statements.Coordination of statutory and other compliance processesTraining and ongoing user support to staff across the universityParticipation in special projectsAdditional duties for Pensions Services if requiredOther duties of similar scopeThis position applies Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and other Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as applicable. As part of the Financial Reporting department, the position is also assigned other financial reporting duties of the university.Job RequirementsThis position requires an undergraduate degree and the pre-requisites towards and accounting designation (CPA) with an expectation that the designation will be completed within a reasonable time-frame (3-4 years) plusThree years of pre-designation, professional accounting experience and applied knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles with emphasis on knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).Experience in a large, diverse and sophisticated accounting environment.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.In addition this position requires:Excellent organizational skills.Advance Excel skills.Advanced computer proficiency.Ability to facilitate corporate training.Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders.Competency requirements include:Remain agile - adapts to changing business needs, conditions, and work responsibilities.Focus on quality - demonstrated personal effectiveness to take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, and achieves results with little oversight.Builds Relationships - promote collaboration, partnership and cross-organizational activities that share knowledge and pool resources to get things done.Provide excellent service – provide reliable and responsive service that builds positive ongoing relationships and supports UVic's goal to advance service excellence.Assets or Preferences:Experience with accounting software, especially Banner and FASTExperience developing and delivering training programsTerritory Acknowledgement: We acknowledge and respect the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory the university stands, and the Lək̓ʷəŋən and WSÁNEĆ Peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.Equity Statement: UVic is committed to upholding the values of equity, diversity, inclusion and human rights in our living, learning and work environments.
