What you will be doing in the role of Mechanical Designer:  

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:  

  • Planning, designing, and drafting detailed specifications of mechanical systems including fuel trains, hydronic systems, vessels and clean in place skids
  • Drafting piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Supporting the Engineering team with design calculations and specifications for major equipment, including boilers and auxiliary equipment
  • Creating and drafting sketches, and preparing specifications and MTOs for purchase of materials and equipment
  • Creating mechanical design packages including detailed drawings, shop spool drawings, Isometrics, BOM's, assembly drawings and layouts
  • Designing skid's steel structures and preparing related fabrication shop drawings
  • Interfacing with Project Managers and Project Engineers to prepare drawings, resolve mechanical issues and implement changes as required to ensure completion of projects on time and within budget
  • Preparing final designs and specifications
  • Maintaining design libraries  

Knowledge and skills required for the role: 

  • University or College Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Piping/Mechanical Designer role, specific to Combustion and/or Food and Beverage industries
  • Knowledge of engineering and piping codes and standards specifically ASME B31.1 and B31.3
  • Proficiency in Modelling/Drafting techniques and standards 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks (Plant 3D would be an asset)
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles
  • Knowledge of piping material specifications, piping flexibility principles and supporting
  • Ability to prepare designs and specifications for material and equipment needs of mechanical systems
  • Ability to prepare complex schematic drawings from rough sketches, survey data, and oral instructions
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of Applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a very schedule sensitive environment
