Role:

The Production Planner is an integral part of our supply chain and primary plant production team that works with our sales, production and logistics partners to create accurate and up-to-date demand and supply forecasts for production scheduling. They will ensure maximum plant utilization through efficient production scheduling and inventory/shelf-life management; the tracking of progress and reviewing of factors which affect production schedules. Ensure that manufacturing schedules maximize plant efficiency and satisfy customer requirements. The position is accountable to coordinate and handle all information related to orders, purchasing and to communicate to the various internal and external departments.

Responsibilities
  • Own the demand and supply planning processes and tools to resolve demand/supply imbalances caused by schedule changes, constraints, downtime, promotions / events
  • Accountable for planning and scheduling production activity for the Plant, based on sales forecasts and actual orders received.
  • Accountable for identifying product and coordinating purchases and sales with other Sunrise plants
  • Help reduce supply variability through problem solving, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Forecast raw material short falls and surplus
  • Accountable for balancing raw product supply with local customer order requirements.
  • Review and amend planning policies to improve production and process efficiency and/or forecast accuracy
  • Monitor and manage performance across the demand and supply planning processes
  • Refine statistical forecast models to continually improve forecast accuracy
  • Work with Sales on inventory strategies, forecasting, incorporate product life cycle, promotion and event information into demand forecasts
  • Work with peer production plants to share ideas, trends and effective working practices
  • Manage process for incorporating and communicating off-cycle forecast adjustments
  • Accountable for the communication of information between various dept's like shipping, production and order desks both locally and corporate.
  • Accountable to create accurate and functional tools to manage the planning activities for two plants (Surrey and Cloverdale).
  • Proactively take ideas to leadership for continuous improvement
  • Works closely with Senior Demand Planner, Production Managers and Plant Manager
  • Ensure business continuity by covering critical Production Planning and Operations tasks during peak periods or staff absences.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Food Science, Operations, Statistics, Mathematics, or Supply Chain Management or other applicable degree
  • Two years of previous experience in a production environment required.
  • Designation/training in Demand Supply/Production Planning
  • Strong analytic, statistical modeling and projections skills
  • Experience in Consumer-Packaged goods/ Fast moving good industry
  • Strong MS Office Skills – Excel (Advanced), MS Access, MS PowerPoint (Intermediate)
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain planning processes
  • An understanding of key dynamics between Sales and Operations functions, including Supply Chain in a consumer-packaged goods company, preferably in perishable products
  • Previous Experience in Meat/Poultry processing Industry and asset
Competencies
  • Knowledge of the end-to-end supply chain, supply planning, demand planning and production planning
  • Problem solving with understanding of problem-solving methodologies and Lean tools and techniques
