The Senior Accountant oversees the day-to-day accounting functions for the business. Working closely with the leadership team, emphasis on developing and deploying operational financial metrics and processes to reflect actual performance. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who thrives in a dynamic industrial or service business environment, is comfortable improving processes, and enjoys working closely with different departments in operations, sales, engineering and the leadership managing team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and refine cost accounting systems and reporting models
  • Track, analyze, and report production and operational costs (materials, labor, overhead)
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy, journal entries, accruals, and month-end close activities
  • Prepare cost of goods sold (COGS) and margin variance reports with actionable insights
  • Monitor inventory valuation, stock adjustments, and cost allocation methods
  • Collaborate with Operations to evaluate cost drivers and recommend improvement strategies
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal company controls/sub certification process and audit requirements
  • Lead process improvements to streamline financial reporting and cost visibility
  • Provide financial analysis to leadership to support pricing decisions and profitability
  • Oversee payroll process including reconciling and maintaining all payroll related general ledger accounts
  • Responsible for all government remittances
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivables staff
  • Oversee invoicing process and support in negotiating outstanding payments
  • Reconcile bank statements and maintain general ledger accounts
  • Ensure accuracy of all financial transactions
  • Posting journal entries
  • Monitor and track expenses
  • Assist with month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets and forecasts
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements
  • Assist in the development of business and financial policies and procedures while oversee business support staff/requirements

Experience, Qualifications & Attributes

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting; cost accounting experience required
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE/GAAP and cost accounting principles
  • Experience in small business or manufacturing and industrial service environment desirable
  • Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or similar); EPICOR ERP knowledge as an asset
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and present financial insights clearly
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
