Overview

Beausoleil First Nation is seeking an Animal Control & Enforcement Trainee to support public safety by enforcing local animal control bylaws. Duties include patrolling, responding to service calls, investigating complaints, detaining and removing off-leash dogs, issuing fines and licenses, and supporting animal care and education. This is a hands-on role with direct community impact. Preference given to Beausoleil First Nation members. Position funded through the Nookmis Revenue Fund.

Key Responsibilities

· Respond to routine reports of stray, aggressive, or off-leash dogs through on-call availability, community patrols, and dispatch response, including the detention and removal of off-leash dogs regardless of ownership.

· Capture, transport, impound, or transfer animals to shelters or veterinary services safely and humanely

· Enforce local animal control bylaws and issue fines, licenses, and escalating penalties

· Investigate incidents involving neglect, disease, or aggression; follow up to ensure compliance and public safety

· Collect fees for licenses, services, and animal redemption; maintain accurate records, forms, and reports

· Maintain animal control equipment, vehicles, and safety gear

· Coordinate with veterinary services, law enforcement, emergency responders, and Animal Control License Issuers

· Educate the public on responsible pet ownership, licensing, vaccinations, spay/neuter programs, and animal safety

· Participate in community outreach, mandatory training, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

· Grade 12 diploma or equivalent

· Knowledge of animal behavior and humane handling; ability to safely capture, restrain, and transport animals

· Ability to enforce and explain animal control by-laws; willingness to complete BFN by-law enforcement training

· Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills; ability to gain public cooperation

· Ability to make sound decisions under pressure

· Physically fit for outdoor work on uneven terrain, including lifting up to 100 lbs

· Valid Ontario Class G driver's license with clean driver's abstract

· Ability to obtain and maintain a clean VSS/CPIC

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Desktop Computer.
