What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create fun, engaging, and inclusive learning activities that help kids grow emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically.
  • Support children with diverse needs, including those with developmental or behavioral challenges, by implementing individualized plans.
  • Create meaningful connections with families, caregivers, and your team to ensure children get the care and attention they need to succeed.
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Be a positive role model for children, promoting respect, empathy, and teamwork.

About You

You thrive in a collaborative, dynamic environment where no two days are the same, bringing integrity, empathy, and a passion for making a difference. With strong communication skills, you build trust and foster teamwork while delivering results and maintaining service excellence. Your ability to plan, organize, and adapt ensures efficiency in achieving goals. Bonus points if you have experience supporting children facing unique challenges or from diverse cultural backgrounds, as this enhances your ability to connect and contribute effectively.

Must-Haves:

  • Diploma in Early Learning and Childcare, Special Needs Educational Assistant, Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant, or related field.
  • Experience supporting children with behavioral or developmental needs.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices (or a willingness to learn).
  • Willing participant in annual training in Safe Management practices (employer provided training).
  • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector completed obtained within 60-days of date of hire.
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR certification or completion within 30-days of hire.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • A knack for creativity and problem-solving. Experience in inclusive, multicultural environments. A love of play-based learning (bonus if you're great at hide-and-seek).

Working with Us

This position is based in our Edmonton classrooms, with occasional opportunities to engage in community outreach. Compensation starts at $21.33/hour, with increases based on experience and qualifications.

Two (2) regular full-time positions available.

ABC Head Start does not qualify for wage top-up.
