At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We're an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We're large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.
Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.
You're an ideal candidate if you have:
- An ownership mentality that treats each project as if it's building your own home.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), as well strong organizational abilities, with respect to the capability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time with a view to delivery of a quality product on time and on budget.
- Strong knowledge of physical hydrogeology, dewatering, potable groundwater supply, and groundwater and surface water monitoring programs.
- Familiarity with infrastructure, pit and quarry, and community supply required. Specific experience in the mining industry is considered an asset.
- The ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime, as required.
A typical day on the job might look like:
- Providing leadership and mentorship of junior and intermediate environmental professionals and staff.
- Providing consulting services in the field of contaminated sites management for government and private industry clients.
- Providing technical support to a wide variety of environmental projects, including the preparation and supervision of field programs, data analysis, and technical report writing and proposal preparation.
- Data compilation and interpretation, including water quality results, hydraulic response testing data analysis, water balance assessments, water take/dewatering estimation, and impact assessment analysis.
- Interpretation and application of municipal by-laws, provincial and federal acts and regulations.
- Senior review of technical documents as a Professional Engineer/Professional Geoscientist.
- Business development in support of growth of the contaminated sites and environmental practices.
- Managing client needs and client communication for a given project.
- Project management and budget development and management.
- Adhering to all company policies.
- Performing other duties as required.
The good stuff you get:
- Full time salaried position.
- Fair pay plus extra: competitive salary with year-end profit-sharing bonus
- Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
- Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
- Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
- Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)
Your background and what you bring:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or geoscience from an accredited institution, or a bachelor's degree in earth science or environmental science. A post-graduate degree is considered an asset.
- Professional license in NL (i.e., P.Geo. or P.Eng.), or sufficient experience as an environmental scientist in contaminated sites to qualify as a Registered Site Professional.
- Current registration, or the eligibility to be registered as a Site Professional with the Impacted Sites Management Section (ISMS) of Newfoundland and Labrador Environment and Climate Change.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience. Experience in consulting is considered an asset.
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks for groundwater withdrawal/use, drinking water supply, contaminated sites assessment and management, and environmental assessment is required.
- Groundwater flow and transport modeling experience is an asset.
