The Opportunity - Student, Grounds & Botanical Gardens

Our Summer Student Grounds & Botanical Worker position provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in horticulture, landscaping, and campus maintenance while contributing to a collaborative and innovative environment.
The Summer Student Grounds & Botanical Worker will assist the Grounds/Botanical department by performing a variety of horticultural, landscaping, and grounds maintenance tasks. This role includes operating equipment, supporting campus waste management, and ensuring campus safety and environmental standards are upheld.
This is a fantastic opportunity to build practical skills, contribute to the community, and gain valuable industry experience.
Key Job Functions
Perform horticultural and grounds maintenance tasks, including cleaning and maintaining grounds, spring cleanup, and preparing planting bedsMaintain perennials and assist in planning, growing, monitoring, fertilizing, and assessing the annual bedding cropOperate equipment such as trailers, trucks, skid steers, and lawn mowersSupport waste management by maintaining garbage disposal bins on campusEnsure best practices and standards are followed in alignment with established proceduresComplete assigned tasks and ensure related documentation is processed accuratelyWork collaboratively to maintain a safe and welcoming environment on campusThe employee is responsible for being aware of health and safety responsibilities and expectations as outlined in college policy, departmental and area proceduresPerform other related duties as requiredEducation/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
Must possess a minimum of a Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's LicenseKnowledge of grounds maintenance equipment is an assetAbility to work independently and as part of a team while accepting directionStrong customer service skills and a commitment to ethical, respectful behaviorWillingness to adopt new technologies and practicesActs ethically, openly, honestly, and respectfully to build and maintain an environment of trust, safety, and well-beingWorking Conditions:
Physically demanding role requiring manual dexterity and the ability to work in adverse weather conditionsConditions of Employment:
