Position Summary:

The successful incumbent in this role will join a small team providing financial services, analysis and support to our 5 locations in the Prairies. Initially, this role will be primarily providing support to our Winnipeg location. The Senior Accountant will support the alignment Group of Companies to enhance efficiency and consistent business practices / objectives. The Senior Accountant is responsible for reporting and analysis, providing financial support to the business, inventory analysis, performance analysis, account reconciliations, journal entries and other duties as assigned while ensuring all financial activities are in line with company goals and objectives. A high attention to detail is required to be successful in this role.

Please note this position is Temporary – full-time Contract – Up to One Year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform various day to day accounting transactions and journal entries
  • Reconcile GL accounts (accounts receivable and payable, intercompany, inventory, etc)
  • Monthly bank reconciliations for Canadian and US accounts
  • Participate in various monthly accounting cycle activities and reporting of key metrics
  • Variance and margin analysis
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
  • Submit provincial and federal government reporting and tax filing
  • Complete payroll processes through QuickBooks and ensure necessary remittances are made in a timely fashion. Transition support to Ceridian Dayforce may be required at a later date.
  • Provide benefits administration as needed
  • Participate in the preparation of forecasts and budgets
  • Assist with the compilation of year-end audit reports and requests
  • Participate in cross-training to provide coverage for other positions within the team as needed (such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, processing payments, recording deposits, etc)
  • Support ongoing projects and initiatives
  • Willingness to learn new skills and provide input to improve current processes to create efficiencies
  • Support in technology migration process. E.g. Dayforce, aSa

What You'll Need

  • Post secondary education in business, finance or accounting, combined with a minimum of 5 years full-cycle accounting experience
  • Preference for a candidate who has completed or working towards their CPA designation
  • Very proficient working with Google Workspace apps and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with technology migration such as Dayforce and aSa would be considered an asset
  • Experience in aSa/Sage MAS 500 and Ceridian Dayforce software would be an asset
  • Experience with QuickBooks – accounting entries and payroll
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas is an asset
  • Preference given to those with experience in the construction, manufacturing, or steel fabrication industry
