About the role

Join the Business Solutions Engineering Team, in the Senior Specialist, Software Engineering position, where we are developing the next generation of software applications to enable CMHC to achieve its strategy. As a Subject Matter Expert, you will guide a team of Developers specializing in one of CMHC's platforms. Your skills and passion for collaborative application development, programming, leading teams, user-centric design and software reliability will contribute to the development and maintenance of CMHC's business platforms and other applications to propel CMHC forward efficiently and securely.

What you'll do:

• Complete complex application development projects by following the SDLC, from business requirements to deployment and support in production.
• Be CMHC's leading expert on a platform or set of application development technologies (see below).
• Guide and advise a team of developers in their work by providing mentoring, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Interface with the client community to determine their system needs. Document the current and proposed business processes. Advise clients of the proposed solutions and their impacts.
• Author technical specification documents and diagrams for CMHC's platforms and custom developed applications.
• Develop logical and physical system models incorporating the business processes and prepare clear, concise and well-written analysis documents or program specifications.
• Create or update the technical design for new or existing computer systems including hosting, network, databases, processes, error handling, inputs, outputs, reports and interfaces to other systems or processes.
• Design logically sound, readily maintained program structures based on program specifications.

What you should have:

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in application development including progressively complex roles involving , TypeScript, microservices architecture and micro frontend migration.
• Leading expertise in CMHC's application development platforms/environments. This position will be CMHC's expert in our technology platforms (see below).
• Proven leadership in front-end architecture, including custom UI component libraries (Material UI, Storybook), and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).
• Advanced ability to design and implement scalable applications aligned with business goals, including setting technical standards, best practices, and reference designs.
• Advanced Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven architecture with a focus on Microsoft technologies.
• Proven interpersonal, leadership and business competencies, including teamwork, facilitation, communication, presentation, influencing and negotiation skills.

Technologies:

• Strong hands-on experience with and its ecosystem (Hooks, Context API, Redux).
• Proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.
• Experience with micro frontend architecture migration and custom UI libraries (Material UI, Storybook).
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and Experience with automated testing tools such as Jest, Playwright, and Selenium.
• Solid understanding of OAuth2 authorization and observability platforms.
• Backend knowledge including , Azure SQL, microservices, and Azure services (App Services, Functions, Blob Storage); plus, CI/CD with Git/Azure DevOps.

It would be great if you also had:

• A Graduate degree or certificate in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field.
• Technical certifications in application architecture, cloud development and administration (ex. Azure Administrator, Azure developer).
