What You'll Do
- Lead and support field programs focused on vegetation, wetlands, and Species at Risk (SAR)
- Conduct vegetation assessments using Ecological Land Classification (ELC) and Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES)
- Carry out botanical inventories, vegetation monitoring, and targeted SAR flora assessments (e.g., Butternut and Black Ash health assessments)
- Delineate ecological features (wetlands, woodlands, etc.)
- Support or lead wildlife surveys (e.g., anuran surveys, SAR bat habitat assessments, acoustic monitoring)
- Compile, analyze, and interpret ecological data to inform impact assessments and mitigation strategies
- Prepare clear, accurate reports and contribute to multidisciplinary project documentation
- Engage with clients, Indigenous communities, and regulatory agencies
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments and regions
- Take on other duties as assigned—every day is different
What You'll Bring
- University degree or equivalent experience in Ecology, Biology, Botany, or a related field
- 2–5 years of relevant experience (internships/co-op placements count)
- Strong field botany skills and a passion for Ontario's flora
- Training/certification in ELC and OWES protocols (or applied experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office suite
- Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle
- Willingness to work outdoors, sometimes in remote locations and outside standard hours
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, even under tight deadlines
- Commitment to health and safety
- Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to make a difference in environmental consulting
