The base salary will be $105,000 - $145,000 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

About UsFacilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites, and services within Western's campus community.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Managing Director, Facilities Development & Engineering, the Associate Director, Facilities Planning and Design will provide leadership to Western's Planning and Design team. The Associate Director will provides insight and leadership around facilities design, campus aesthetics, sustainability and project management best practices. The role exists to support and implement the University's Strategic, Master and long-Range Space Plans and goals for institutional development through the physical environment and building resources of the University.
QualificationsEducation:
- Undergraduate Degree in Architecture, and must be licensed in Ontario
- Master's degree in Architecture is preferred
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accreditation would be an asset
- Project Management Certification preferred
Experience:
- 8 years' management experience in the field of architecture and/or facilities management with demonstrated ability in the planning, design and project administration of projects
- Experience in higher education work environments is preferred
- Experience in campus planning would be an asset
- Experience in staff supervision and excellent verbal and written communication skills is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Well-developed planning, organizational, and project management skills
- Proficiency in using a variety of information technology tools and the ability to understand and adapt new tools to business operations.
- Excellent knowledge of the principles of design applied in planning and designing of large complex institutional buildings (e.g. research, medical, or similar facilities)
- Ability to develop tender documents, construction contracts, and consultant agreements in collaboration with stakeholders, legal counsel, and procurement personnel in accordance with industry standards
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of applicable building codes, by-laws, and regulations including provincial and municipal accessibility, fire, health, and safety standards
- Ability to make appropriate decisions and resolve issues by identifying the critical elements of a problem situation and considering each aspect
- Ability to effectively convey information of a highly technical or complex nature to non-technical audiences
- Ability to effectively communicate with executive management and board members.
- Ability to build relationships and work well across all functions and areas
- Experience in collaborative team environments, delegating workload and responsibilities.
- Excellent human relations skills to positively motivate staff and effectively utilize all members of the unit
- Ability to lead and manage design teams on large-scale projects
- Ability to prioritize and oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in project management methodology and best practices
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine client service orientation
- Demonstrated cross-functional expertise and the ability to thrive in a highly complex construction environment
- Proven political acumen and a demonstrated ability to manage successful results in a complex organization
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including people development, coaching and mentoring, objective setting, and measurement skills
- Ability to act on new information and effectively contribute in a changing environment
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
