On Call Early Childhood Educators (ECE)and Early Childhood Education Assistants (ECEA)

In these on-call roles, you will support at our centre by helping to create a safe, caring, inclusive and culturally grounded environment where children can thrive. Reporting to the Early Childhood Department Manager, you will contribute to engaging programming, support daily routines, and foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. • Provide flexible scheduling to cover shifts as needed, ensuring consistent support and assistance in various classrooms.
• Collaborate with early childhood educators to implement programs that support the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
• Engage children in activities that stimulate learning and development, including storytelling, teaching songs, and creating crafts
• Prepare nutritious morning snacks for children, adhering to dietary guidelines and safety protocols.
• Ensure that snack preparation areas are clean and organized.
• Assist with cleaning up after snack and lunch times, maintaining a clean and organized environment for children.
• Act as an extra pair of hands, offering support to staff and children in different classrooms as required.
• Foster a positive and inclusive mealtime environment, encouraging healthy eating habits.
• Arrange rooms and furniture for lunch and rest periods, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.
• Assist children with proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits as needed.
• Provide one-on-one support to children during activities, helping them engage, participate, and develop essential skills.
• Submit written observations on children's progress to early childhood educators or supervisors.
• Maintain daycare equipment and assist with housekeeping and cooking duties as necessary.
• Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records related to childcare activities.

Required Education and Experience

For Early Childhood Educators (ECE):

• Early Childhood Educator Certificate or Diploma is preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent experience within a licensed childcare setting
• BC License to practice as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE).
• Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Valid First Aid Certificate.

For Early Childhood Education Assistants

• BC License to practice; Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA).
• Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Valid First Aid Certificate.
• Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó: lō and First Nations culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Be creative and positive with a can-do attitude.
• Be mature, responsible and dependable.
• Be flexible to work full-time (8hrs).
• Possess excellent communication skills

Working Conditions

• Primarily work is performed in the Child Care Centre.
• Immunization Declaration
• Interacting with members, including children, elders, and parents.
