WOLFE Family Wellness is an Indigenous-led, family-centred residential healing program that supports families through trauma-informed therapy, cultural reconnection, and community-driven care. Our 90-day program creates safe, respectful environments where children and families can heal, grow, and restore balance through traditional knowledge, therapeutic support, and relational strength.

Position Summary:

The addictions counsellor will work within the WOLFE residential program to support families who are navigating substance use, trauma, and healing. This individual provides counselling, conducts assessments, facilitates groups, and integrates culturally grounded methods into addiction recovery work. They will collaborate with cultural workers, Elders, family support staff, and community partners to deliver holistic care and support participants in moving toward wellness and reconnection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments to understand each client's strengths, challenges, substance use history, and readiness for change
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that integrate evidence-based addiction interventions and culturally relevant healing practices
  • Facilitate individual and group counselling sessions focused on substance use, co-occurring trauma, relapse prevention, and family dynamics
  • Work collaboratively with cultural practitioners, Elders, and knowledge keepers to embed Indigenous healing practices (e.g., ceremony, sharing circles, bead/ribbon work) into the recovery process
  • Case manage clients and families: track progress, document outcomes, refer to external supports (health, housing, legal, education, DFNAs)
  • Help plan and deliver educational workshops, prevention programming, and relapse-prevention strategies tailored to Indigenous families and cultural contexts
  • Participate in family therapy/reunification sessions, supporting the whole family system toward healing
  • Maintain accurate records, complete reports, discharge summaries, and liaise with partner agencies
  • Support after-care and transition planning to community-based supports post-program
  • Model healthy behaviour, professional boundaries, trauma-informed practice, and cultural humility
  • Contribute to program development, quality improvement, and team meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of WOLFE's mission and program needs

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Addictions Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 3 years of experience providing counselling, ideally in substance use, trauma-informed, or family-centred settings
  • Experience working with Indigenous families and knowledge of Indigenous culture, ceremony, and trauma-informed practices is a strong asset
  • Skilled in individual and group facilitation, treatment planning, assessment, and recovery models (CBT, MI, harm reduction, etc.)
  • Comfortable integrating cultural healing practices and collaborating with Elders and cultural workers
  • A police information check with a vulnerable sector search and an intervention record check is required
  • First Aid & CPR certification required (or willingness to obtain within first three months)
  • Compassionate, flexible, excellent communicator, team player, and able to maintain boundaries and self-care
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
