Job Description

The Head of Aviation – Architecture & Planning leads the strategic development and oversight of aviation infrastructure projects, ensuring that all airport master planning, terminal design, and airside/landside developments align with regulatory requirements, operational needs, and long-term business goals. This role serves as the key technical and strategic advisor for all architectural and planning aspects of aviation projects.

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and oversee long-term airport master plans, ensuring capacity, functionality, and sustainability.
  • Lead the architectural and planning vision for terminal, airside, and landside development projects.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on capital investment planning and prioritization.
  • Lead the Planning & Engineering team, including internal staff and external partners, to deliver cohesive and integrated outcomes

Project Development & Oversight

  • Oversee planning analysis, forecasting, and simulation to inform capital development strategies
  • Develop and maintain Airport Development Plans aligned with strategic capital investment priorities.
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure for condition, compliance, and suitability; provide direction on new capital project designs.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and assurance on design deliverables for major capital programs

Stakeholder & Regulatory Coordination

  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships in collaboration with stakeholder engagement teams
  • Establish and monitor governance frameworks and execution plans for planning and engineering functions
  • Represent Planning & Engineering at executive leadership forums, preparing briefings and updates on key initiatives

Risk & Compliance Management

  • Ensure contractor compliance with planning, engineering, and architectural requirements.
  • Collaborate with program delivery and technical services leaders to ensure integrated program execution
  • Mentor and support the professional development of staff within the planning and engineering team
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in leading major aviation infrastructure programs at large international airports.
  • Strong knowledge of aviation industry standards, capacity modeling, terminal planning, and infrastructure design
  • Experience working with international airport operators, regulatory bodies, and consultants.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder capital programs
  • Significant senior level Program Management experience, typically leading complex programs in aviation
  • Recognized expertise in planning and developing successful complex programs with a proven ability to identify and manage priorities, integrate and leverage resources, processes and tools to set and achieve strategic objectives
  • Actively champions effective assurance and risk management elements of complex programs, drives positive risk cultures and is a trusted manager in mitigating company and client risks.

  • Professional accreditation (e.g., RIBA, AIA, RTPI) preferred.
