Accounting Technician – Energetic and Growing Public Practice Firm

Our energetic and rapidly growing firm is seeking a full‑time
Accounting Technician
to join our team. We are looking for a detail‑oriented professional with strong Canadian bookkeeping and accounting experience who enjoys working with a variety of clients and contributing to a collaborative, fast‑paced environment. As our firm continues to expand, this role offers excellent opportunities for professional development and long‑term career growth.

Key Responsibilities

Client Bookkeeping & File Management

  • Maintain accurate financial records for multiple clients across various industries.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual bookkeeping files, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Process payroll, and government remittances (GST/HST, EHT, WSIB, source deductions).
  • Assist in preparing year‑end working papers for review by senior staff and managers.
  • Assist and preparing T4/T5 information slips.
  • Support preparation of T1 personal tax returns during tax season.

Software & Technical Work

  • Work with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and CaseWare.
  • Use Taxprep for T1 preparation (experience considered a strong asset).
  • Ensure proper setup and maintenance of client accounting systems.
  • Identify discrepancies and resolve issues proactively.

Client Communication & Support

  • Communicate with clients to obtain missing information and clarify transactions.
  • Provide guidance on bookkeeping best practices and system organization.
  • Build strong, professional relationships through timely and clear communication.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with senior accountants and managers to support year‑end engagements.
  • Assist with onboarding new clients and improving internal bookkeeping processes.
  • Contribute to a positive, team‑oriented work environment.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of bookkeeping or accounting technician experience in a Canadian public practice firm (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and Canadian tax remittances.
  • T1 personal tax preparation experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Taxprep is an asset.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar accounting software.
  • Experience with CaseWare is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
