The Engineering Department is a Transport Canada Design Approval Organization that supports many internal and external modification and repair design requests by creating the appropriate data as necessary.

JOB OVERVIEW

As a growing company, KF Aerospace is looking for an Aerospace Engineer Co-op student - Avionics.

The qualified individual will assist with avionics design and integration on a wide variety of aircraft types in compliance with the appropriate regulations. The successful candidate will prepare avionics and electrical drawings and analysis and will liaise with appropriate departments and organizations for resolution of issues pertaining to design data interpretation and design deviations.

The role of the avionics co-op student will be to contribute to the Avionics team in the development of modifications on Part 23 or Part 25 airplanes, including but not limited to interior reconfigurations, communications and navigation system installations, or other avionics installations.

They will be mentored in design, drafting, standards and specifications, regulations, and the complexities of aircraft avionics and systems. The avionics co-op student will develop modification wiring diagrams and routing drawings in AutoCAD, propose design solutions, and develop the final design package and installation instructions. They will also support the development of the certification package, which may include electrical load analyses, environmental qualification reports, test plans, certification plans, etc. The avionics co-op student will also be involved in configuration control and document distribution for the modifications being accomplished at our facility.

By the end of the work term the avionics co-op student in the Avionics team should have had exposure to all aspects of aircraft modifications, been involved in multiple projects on different aircraft types, gained experience developing various types of drawings, reports and analyses, and be capable of designing a minor modification with minimal supervision.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Working towards a University Degree in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering
  • Completion of three full academic years before the start of the Co-op term
  • Ability to commit to 16-month term (May 2026-August 2027)
  • Due to security clearance requirements, must be Canadian citizen or PR status

Our ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and strong work ethic, and is the type of individual who uses his or her highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail when taking the initiative on projects. They are able to work effectively both alone, or as part of a team. Candidates also need to possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have basic computer skills. CAD experience is considered an asset.
