Focus Equities ("Focus Equities") is a private Canadian real estate company, headquartered in Victoria, British Columbia, that has a 50+ year history providing construction, development, operations in infrastructure, energy, and real estate projects in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Victoria, and Calgary. Focus Equities strategically invests develops ground-up real estate projects involving residential and industrial master planned communities, and has extensive leadership expertise in land development, infrastructure services, and deep relationships with lenders and capital partners.
The Job
Focus Equities is seeking an experienced Analyst or entrepreneurial Associate (on-site, full-time) to join our team with an opportunity for rapid professional growth in a dynamic and growing company. The Analyst/Associate will support the company's Owners, including the Chief Financial Officer, in all facets of Focus Equities' business, with a particular focus on underwriting and execution of new investments in development and value-add projects and asset management of existing investments.
Key Responsibilities:
Take a leadership role in the preparation of underwriting for new investments, including conducting market analyses, preparing comprehensive financial models (proformas), and presenting recommendations regarding potential opportunities to senior management
Prepare investment memoranda for both the internal investment committee as well as prospective external equity partners and lenders
Manage due diligence efforts including physical and environmental investigations, survey, title, and legal documentation as well as post-closing activities and administration
Oversee ongoing asset management responsibilities including financial reporting
Work closely with senior management on capital raising efforts for the business, including preparation of offering materials, investor presentations, and coordination of investor due diligence
Build a network within the industry through networking events, meetings, and involvement in real estate trade organizations
Qualifications:
Undergraduate business degree is required; a graduate degree (MBA or Masters in Real Estate Development) is preferred
Professional designation such as the CFA or CPA is desirable but not required
Minimum 1-3 years of work experience in the real estate industry, preferably with exposure to real estate acquisitions, investments, investment banking, and/or development
Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel for financial analysis and Word/PowerPoint to prepare offering memoranda and other professional presentations
Ability to conduct and synthesize market research, with exposure to and knowledge of a range of asset classes and geographical markets across Canada considered an asset
Thrives under pressure and enjoys contributing to team goals while having the ability to independently manage multiple tasks and problem solve with strong attention to detail
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an interest in building industry relationships and a passion for the Real Estate industry
Organized, analytical, has a positive attitude, takes initiative
