Your Opportunity:
Our team is seeking an Indigenous Health Coordinator to support the Indigenous Support Line, which is a provincial telephone support service available to Indigenous peoples in Alberta. In this role, you will support First Nations, Metis and Inuit across Alberta including those in Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8 and the Metis Settlements. To be successful in this role, you will use your knowledge of Indigenous communities through the province and resources available to respond to callers needs using culturally safe, strength-based approaches. The selected candidate will be expected to work on-site to facilitate effective team collaboration and deliver optimal health link services. You will support system navigation, facilitate connections to cultural supports, provide supportive listening and warm walk alongs to other members of the team. The Indigenous Health Coordinator is the first person our callers will hear when they call, so we require competencies such as cultural safety and anti-racist practices, knowledge of Indigenous histories (e.g., intergenerational trauma, systemic racism, 60's scoop), trauma-informed practice, and skills in relationship building, and active listening. Strong technical skills are required (e.g., typing while being spoken to) and comfort using multiple electronic platforms. This position collaborates with many different teams within Primary Care Alberta, other health agencies, and external partners. This position will be part of Primary Care Alberta effective November 18, 2024. By applying on this posting, if you are the successful candidate, you agree to and will become an employee of Primary Care Alberta.
Description:
As the Indigenous Health Coordinator, you will be receiving calls from Indigenous peoples seeking care in Alberta and health professionals supporting indigenous peoples, building relationships with callers, providing culturally appropriate information and/or resource referrals, and transferring to other team members within the ISL program to help manage concerns and complaints and/or more complex mental health or substance use concerns. The IHC must be comfortable with interacting with other health care professionals and navigating the complexities within the system. This position requires competencies in cultural safety and anti-racist practices, along with a strong understanding of Indigenous histories and contemporary realities within Alberta.
