Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site role for a Math (Abacus) Instructor, to join our team of educators at our centre in Oakville, ON. Our classes run weekday evenings and weekend mornings - ideal for someone who has flexibility in their schedule and/or as a supplementary job.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to teach math to primary level students using the Abacus tool using set lesson plans. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in mathematical concepts and fostering a positive learning environment. This role requires strong communication skills, creativity in lesson planning, and the ability to effectively engage and motivate students at different levels in the program.

The program is a math program but is more than just that because it builds key cognitive benefits like concentration, observation, memory, imagination, creativity, judgment, application, reasoning, and self-confidence. You will have full support and training from colleagues and our dedicated head office team.

Duties

  • Implement engaging lesson plans that meet curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles
  • Deliver instructional content through various teaching methods, including classroom based instruction and hands-on activities
  • Assess student performance and providing constructive feedback to support their growth
  • Create a supportive classroom environment that encourages student participation and fosters a love for learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices and share resources.
  • Stay updated on educational best practices and participate in professional development opportunities
  • Manage parental expectations and provide feedback on student progress

Qualifications

  • Previous teaching or instructional experience is highly desirable
  • Passion for working with children
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Strong mathematics and arithmetic skills
  • Patience and ability to adapt teaching methods to individual students based on individual needs
  • Attention to detail and ability to creatively follow lesson plans
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate with other instructors
  • Experience with Abacus and/or mental arithmetic is a plus (familiarity with UCMAS is preferred)
