Job Summary:
The Naval Architect supports the implementation of various projects through design and analysis while working closely with Operational and Technical groups as well as vessel management and crew.
Key Responsibilities:
• Participate in the conceptual development of new assets.
• Assist with the development of revenue generation opportunities.
• Assess project requirements and researches feasibility.
• Support condition assessments of the fleets.
• Conduct purchase and sales inspections when required.
• Provide lay-up assistance for any extraordinary projects.
• Manage structural works during winter lay-up period.
• Administer boom survey program.
• Administer cargo hold lining maintenance program.
• Support the fleet through cargo review and evaluation.
• Assist in the development of policies and procedures to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
• Respond to field and technical requests as required.
• Stay current with new technologies and applies as appropriate to new and on-going projects.
• Produce detailed designs of vessels using drawings and specialist computer software.
• Interpret and analyzes data and test results.
Skills, Abilities and Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in a related position.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of the Great Lakes Seaway System is an asset.
• Proficient with AutoCAD 2D, Rhino 3D, Microsoft Office(particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
• Any proficiency with loading computer like Cargomax will be an asset.
• Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
• Able to create and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
• Confidentiality, discretion and diplomacy on all business matters.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Self-motivated, able to work in a team environment and balance the needs of a number of individuals and the team.
• Capable of identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner.
• A creative, enquiring and logical mind.
• Ability to analyze and interpret technical information and drawings.
• Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationship and interact with all levels of the organization and in multinational environments.
• Valid passport and driver's license.
• No travel restrictions.
Working conditions:
• Operates in an open office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers and phones.
• Requires undertaking visits to vessels on location as required.
• Requires ability to travel on occasion, some of which may be international.
• Requires routine after hour and weekend work.
