Location - This role is in-person at North Campus, Edmonton.
Position Summary
Our science summer camps are hands-on, five day camps that run for eight weeks from June 29 to August 21, 2026. Camps are a collaborative effort between various departments in the Faculty of Science and provide an enriching experience for local youth.
Day Camp Leaders will be required to lead educational, scientific demonstrations and activities for children in grades 1-11. Leaders are also responsible for the daily supervision of the student campers.
This position will begin May 25th (35 hours per week), increasing hours as of June 29 (~40 hours per week) until August 21, 2026.
The Faculty of Science is internationally recognized for excellence in research and education. Through pioneering discovery and innovation, the faculty addresses global challenges across disciplines such as biology, chemistry, computing science, physics, mathematics, and earth sciences. Its work positions the university at the forefront of technological, environmental, and scientific advancement.
- Summer camp preparation (5 weeks before camps begin) designing and creating activities, assisting in classroom setup, and training
- Science activity design and instruction
- Daily supervision of up to 24 students alongside co-leaders (hands-on activities, tours, breaks, lunch)
- Leading free-time/break activities/games (inside and outside)
Registration sign-in/out duties every day
We are seeking enthusiastic, creative, caring, mature, and conscientious university students (ideally continuing in Fall 2026), preferably with prior experience mentoring young people and designing and delivering educational programs.
- We are looking for applicants who are students in Education, Science or Engineering and have an interest in teaching children.
- A criminal record check for working with minors will be required before the position begins.
- First aid training will be provided and is required for the position.
