Accounting Supervisor

What We're Looking For

Nortrans is excited to welcome an Accounting Supervisor to our team. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role is a key part of keeping our business financially organized, grounded, and moving in the right direction.

You'll oversee core accounting functions and provide clear, accurate financial insight to leadership. You'll also manage a small, experienced admin team (A/P and Payroll) and work closely with our fractional CFO at Northsight Accounting, while confidently owning your day-to-day scope.

This role is well suited to a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys working independently, values accuracy, and knows how to turn numbers into insight.

The position is based in (or relocates to) the Okanagan Valley and works from our Kelowna office.

A Day In The Life of The Accounting Supervisor

·      Manage core accounting functions including A/P, G/L, expenses, cost accounting, revenue recognition, weekly cash flow, and month-end preparation

·      Develop a strong working understanding of billing, A/R, and payroll, which are handled by other team members

·      Prepare monthly financial statements and internal management reports, and review them with leadership and our fractional CFO

·      Ensure strong quality control over financial transactions and reporting - accuracy truly matters here

·      Handle compliance and reporting requirements across local, provincial, and federal bodies

·      Improve and document accounting processes, controls, and policies

·      Prepare reconciliations, accruals, and supporting transaction reports

Just as importantly, you'll help answer the question "So What?". You'll flag trends, risks, or opportunities and clearly explain what the numbers mean for the business.

What You'll Bring To The Table

·      An accounting degree or diploma with 10+ years of full-cycle experience, ideally in transportation or another asset-heavy industry (construction, mining, oil & gas, etc.)

·      Strong QuickBooks experience

·      The ability to work independently, manage priorities, and confidently own the finance function for a mid-sized business

·      Advanced Excel skills, and curiosity around using AI or automation tools to improve efficiency

·      High attention to detail, strong judgment, and pride in accurate work

·      Clear, practical communication skills, especially when explaining financial results to non-accountants

·      A calm, mature approach to problem-solving and decision-making
